editFrom Middle Low German dingesdach, from Old Saxon *thingesdag, from Proto-Germanic *þingsus-dagaz (“day of the assembly”), from *þingsus + *dagaz. Thingsus, Tiw or Týr was the name of the Germanic god of justice. Cognate to German Dienstag, Dutch dinsdag.
