Bulgarian Handball Federation moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Bulgarian Handball Federation, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. "Rescuing"

edit

I appreciate your work in creating Internet Archive links, but I do question the word "rescuing", in this edit, since all the original links were in fact functional. Is that word yours, or is it something that is standard with IABot? I ask because I think that "protecting" is a much better word when it comes to currently functioning links. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 05:10, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

IABot when it's not needed

edit

I see you're doing a lot of IABot-related edits, but in articles that don't seem to need it. My understanding is current consensus is not to "rescue" sources unnecessarily as it bloats the page. If we decide to include the archive links for every page, a bot should do it. Note that "rescuing" doesn't actually do any archiving -- that's already done by the bot behind the scenes. It just moves the archive link that already exists in the bot's database into the article. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 14:21, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

I do not have any easy way to see which references are archived in the Wayback Machine and which are not. It's either archive them all or risk the reference becoming rotten sometime in the future. Which, considering the age on many of these references, are likely to happen soon. @Rhododendrites: --Trade (talk) 08:28, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is my understanding that the main purpose of IABot is automatically archiving links that are added as references. It maintains a database off-wiki. The idea is that by the time someone notices a link is dead, if it hadn't yet been archived it's too late. So it does it automatically, but doesn't add them to the article unless prompted to do so. I think it also periodically crawls to look for deadlinks and adds archive links to those, but I don't know how frequently. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 15:13, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Need to Switch from CC0 to Fair Use images.

edit

I know I have problems of uploading images from Wikimedia Commons to insert into the page, but the copyright is very difficult and I don't see "fair use" copyright anywhere. So, I use it CC0 instead. Later, it went bad minutes ago about copyright images because CC0 is not possibly acquired for the images or just a public domain. I'm no help for uploading for images anymore. In case, it is possible to redo the license from CC0 into "fair use" again? If not, I'd appreciated you at lot about that. Fortunewriter (talk) 16:45, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you want to upload a fair use image it has to be done on Wikipedia only. Fair use images should not be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Just do the same as you did with File:Epidemic FilmPoster.jpeg User:Trade--Trade (talk) 19:00, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

We block legal threats on sight, whether I personally agree or not -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 23:39, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I stumbled by this talk page by accident and saw the exchange above. A few hours ago, I left this message for a blocked user who was confused:

"FYI, Wikipedia has still another policy, WP:NLT - "No Legal Threats". I read at an off-Wikipedia site that you're thinking of involving a lawyer. If someone makes a legal threat, our policy is to block them. This policy's purpose is less about silencing critics and discouraging them from exercising their legal rights than simplifying the legal process. This policy protects the Wikimedia Foundation from having a bunch of amateur editors complicating a potential lawsuit by saying all sorts of unhelpful things. As you have seen by now, our community includes a wide range of personalities; some are problematic. If you're taking the legal route, Wikimedia wants their lawyers talking to you and your lawyers -- professionals talking to professionals."

In other words, this is less about punishment than legal process, although many editors and even many admin think of it as a punitive tool to be wielded. When in doubt, block. --A. B. (talkcontribsglobal count) 23:35, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
