Welcome to Wikipedia!
editWelcome to Wikipedia! I am Amadscientist. I noticed your Teahouse post and thought I would drop by and give you a couple of quick tips to help immediately in working on Wikipedia articles.
Since you are aware of HTML code you should not have to much trouble figuring out Wikipedia mark-up. But, in short, everything is edited using a text editor that generates the code similar to HTML. If the text is not properly wrapped with code it will appear as the written text. Take my above linked name. The way you do that is to use the [[ ]] wraped around the "User:Name". By adding a | between that "User:Name" and further text of any kind after the | but before the ]] will link to that user. Without the | it would just show User:Amadscientist. You appear to know how to sign with tildes or using the sign button in the text editor and that is important. Always sign your posts.
Wikipedia works through consensus, but remember there are so many different views and interpretations of policy and guidelines that it could be confusing. If someone makes an edit and adds information, it should be referenced with a reliable source if the content is not unquestionable as a reader or editor may want to verify it. That is the most important part of adding content here, that it can be verified.
I don't want to throw a lot of our policy pages at you but suggest, as you have questions that you want quick answers to, just google "Wikipedia:______" with the particular policy or guideline topic. Like "Wikipedia:Image policy" should direct to a google listing for Wikipedia:Image use policy. This saves a lot of time and if you simply use whatever guideline or policy subject you need in the blank spot, it should help greatly.
Get to know the text editor. It has great conveniences, even if you may be a purest and wish to manually add everything. I jump back and forth but I like to use the Wikipedia "tools" for referencing as the formatting is long. To quickly familiarize yourself with proper reference formatting you should review Help:Referencing for beginners.
If you have any specific questions you should feel free to ask at my talk page. I am sometimes away for a few days to deal with real life but I generally return after no more than a few days or so.--Amadscientist (talk) 06:13, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!
editIt looks like you took time to read and find the right place to ask for help. This shows a desire to work with others and the post indicates that you are not above seeking out others for guidance. While this barnstar awrds is usually given when a new editor does something within an article space, I still feel you deserve it to be encouraged further to work together with others and that is the exact reason of the award, to encourage new users!

You are attempting to work with others and have no problem asking for help. That is one of the most important aspects of Wikipedia that many fail to do,it is the heart of the Project, community working together to form a consensus.--Amadscientist (talk) 06:26, 22 July 2013 (UTC) |

Disambiguation link notification for August 4
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
