Omas gegen Rechts - enjoy strong women! I thought of Yoninah on the first day of Rosh Hashanah. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:46, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

I am so happy to learn about the Grannies against the Right Gerda Arendt. Many thanks. Did you know that tomorrow is the Lotte Lenya competition? It is currently a red link at Lotte_Lenya#Legacy - I hope someone turns it blue one day :-) Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 11:47, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
Next time, please let me know a bit sooner ;) - Busy today with two singers I remember (which LouisAlain translated), and the two founding "grannies", and the German founder would also deserve an article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:55, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
I sure will Gerda Arendt. I made that mistake of thinking it was October 9th and only realized I was wrong when I went to copy the link for you today - this is in spite of my knowing about the US v Europe style dating since I started editing here over 16 years ago - facepalm. AFAIK OperaVision will have it available to play after the live broadcast - fingers crossed anyway. MarnetteD|Talk
Similarly: LouisAlain translated Tag des offenen Denkmals recently, I could look only today, and it needs more work to be ready for the Main page. The event is always on the second Sunday in September, which is in a few days. Probably a DYK - if we'll get there - will say so some weeks later ... - Rich Main page today: the first TFA by a promising author, the pictured DYK by same friend LouisAlain who is discouraged by an AN discussion, and one of the Recent deaths. Enjoy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:00, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
Interesting info all around. As ever thanks Gerda. MarnetteD|Talk 00:07, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
today: the day of bold red and black, for Dante who died 700 years ago, and Peter Fleischmann who died recently, leaving us films full of vision. Dante: just heard Inferno, imagined by a woman, the main character both speaking and singing with an inner 4-part voice! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:48, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks as ever Gerda Arendt. The opera sounds especially fascinating. The Folio Society just published a limited edition of the DC in honor of the anniversary. I bought a different version that they had available more than a decade ago and I kinda prefer it to this new one. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 18:56, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
Understand. Today: moar music, Beethoven, and my brother was in the orchestra, 10 July! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:29, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
That is marvelous Gerda. Thanks. MarnetteD|Talk 15:40, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
next chapter --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:39, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
Today: a woman in red (back to the beginning of the thread), two who died under "in memoriam" and LouisAlain missed - my first editnotice read: "Every editor is a human being" which is quoted from a comment by Geometry guy in a 2012 discussion on WP:AN. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:53, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Gerda. Your edit notice is correct. All too often people sitting at home looking at their computer screen forget that. BTW I listened to the Concerto for Two Cellos, RV 531 when I saw it in your edit summary. Quite marvelous. Did you see this Venice, Vivaldi and violin treat from several days ago. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 15:06, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the treat, - made my day! The editnotice was not coined by me, but worth remembering. I dropped it when SBHB died in 2018 (did I point you at his 10 rules?), because more than 3 were too much of a good thing, and that one the most obvious (I thought). I was reminded of it because of that AN thread about LouisAlain whom we lost, I'm afraid (after 6,000 translated articles). I believe that Wikipedia would be better without that whole thread, as it would have been better without the arbcase of RexxS, when I said it wouldn't improve kindness among editors, nor a single article. Well - and not without some bitter irony - this AN thread lead to improving one article, in collaboration even. I'll take it to DYK. - Opera yesterday was fine, Cimarosa's L'Italiana in Londra, five splendid singers without articles, and the conductor with a stub, although he conducted at the ROH, - always work ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:29, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

I don't remember reading them before so thanks for the link. SBHB was another special editor who I miss all the time. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 15:31, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

yes, same - he wrote what I quote in my present editnotice (and read loud to myself yesterday) regarding a friend's ban, DYK? And called me comrade, and said this shortly before he died. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:42, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Another spot on statement from SSBH. I was never in the same room with them but I feel I can hear their voice when I read a post like that. MarnetteD|Talk 15:46, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
You can safely use pronoun "him" for Raymond Arritt. Cute DYK about his wrong math ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:54, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

October songs

I uploaded new pics (click on songs), including "our" concert (after exactly two years without) and a cow sunset --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:59, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Very nice Gerda Arendt. I spent Saturday night wuth this joy. They sure do know how to have fun at that opera house. MarnetteD|Talk 02:25, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
Today: #1700, and I uploaded more images, mostly blue and green, for hope. Including next opera, water splashed all around, all soloists also going in it on stage. Excellent singing, some more red links to be blued in due time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:56, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
So many gorgeous pics Gerda. I particularly like "fall colours in Ehrenbach". The opera article is very interesting as well. Enjoy your weekend. MarnetteD|Talk 15:15, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, four new ones of this weekend. My talk is mostly black&white, standing upright as Psalm 15 says --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:04, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
today: see yourself, read about a hymn praying to not be on earth in vain, about a comics artist whose characters have character (another collaboration of the "perennial gang", broken by one of us banned), and in memory of the last prima donna assoluta, Edita Gruberová. I had to go to two grave sites last week, one who died now, one who died 10 years ago, so standing upright and in black seems appropriate. More colours - but subdued - can be had on hikes, - updated. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:04, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the links and pics Gerda. I always appreciate what I learn from you. My sympathies for those you've lost. They live on in your heart and memories. MarnetteD|Talk 15:54, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
We can't help that some die, but banning a content editor? I tried to stop but in vain. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:57, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Today: a scandal, and more fall colours, including a short sermon. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:57, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
Fascinating GA. The scandal brings to mind Madame de Sade. Have a great week. MarnetteD|Talk 16:26, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
Today: memories in friendship - now really GA --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:11, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
Very nice Gerda. The current mania for creating portmanteau words is a bit over the top for me, but, I have to admit that barihunks tickles my funny bone. Numbers 7 and 8 in the list are particularly worth hearing. Enjoy your Halloween! MarnetteD|Talk 15:32, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
Halloween isn't something we celebrate much in Germany, - beginning in 2010, I stubbornly have a DYK related to Reformation Day among the spooky ones. Reformation features prominently on my user page, and if you follow the link you arrive at a discussion with a great editor who made his last edit (I know of) on Halloween. I copied the design to my calendar images, in fond memory - 9 years now and still missed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:41, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
Very much missed. Regards. MarnetteD|Talk 15:43, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
That missing continued + opera --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:17, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

More learning from you Gerda leads to more thanks from me :-) I found this streaming service a few days ago. So many performances on offer. I've already watched enough plays and operas to pay for my subscription and I haven't even begun the ballets and music performances. It is going to fill my long winter nights with wonder. MarnetteD|Talk 00:12, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Thank you! Will continue shortly with November after revamping my talk third day in a row. I was too busy yesterday on All Saints' Day to talk about singing in a mass AND a rehearsal for next Sunday, and the matching DYK about the person who will conduct those masses from 2022. Today I'll pass a November round, not only All Souls' Day but the birthday of two dear friends, one of them the topic of my first article here, filling a red link, - and filling red links remained my business, today a sonata he'll record, after I managed already one he'll play in two weeks together with the official premieres of two pieces we heard in summer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:53, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Infobox person error

I know you will be along soon to fix Ana Alicia. Please see the edit history and the note at User talk:CabriniGreenChicago. Thanks. MB 23:03, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Well I went ahead and fixed the field by restoring the English language parameter MB but it looks like the whole thing should be reverted to your last edit since the dual nationality isn't sourced as far as I can tell. I didn't revert but I did start a thread on the talk page. I hope that is of some help. MarnetteD|Talk 23:15, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Ana Alicia

Hello friend, there is still an error in the Wikipedia page pertaining to the biography of the actress Ana Alicia, for years the information has been correct appearing that she is Mexican-American, but in recent days it has been modified simply as Mexican or simply as American. Could you correct the page like you did 2 days ago? Leave the correct information that informs that she has dual nationality, please. This is the last correct information which you reset: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ana_Alicia&oldid=1048603359

Could you reset it again? — Preceding unsigned comment added by CabriniGreenChicago (talk • contribs) 21:21, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

CabriniGreenChicago information on any and all of the articles on wikipedia has to be supported by reliable sources. This is even more important on BLP's. If what was there in the past is not supported by refs it can (and should be) removed no matter how long it has been there. In future please make your posts on the talk page for the article. MarnetteD|Talk 21:38, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

I added a reliable reference, this one: [1]

References

  1. ^ [https: //pantheon.world/profile/person/Ana_Alicia "Ana Alicia"]. panthron.world. Retrieved June 6, 2019. {{cite web}}: Check |url= value (help)

However it was rejected. I insist that the information from previous years that indicates that the actress has dual nationality is true. Could you edit the correct information again? Please.

CabriniGreenChicago that is most emphatically NOT a reliable source - as I stated in my edit summary. Do not post here again about this. Any more posts from you about this will be removed. MarnetteD|Talk 21:45, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello

Yello, M. How are you? Starkiryu64 (talk) 01:02, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

Hiya Starkiryu64. I was just thinking about you a couple days ago. I hope that school and life in general are treating you well. I am hanging in there though there are days where my aging body makes things difficult. Autumn is beautiful here this year and that picks up my spirits and puts a smile on my face. Cheers and enjoy your weekend. MarnetteD|Talk 02:32, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

You too. P.S. I finally got a computer. It was an HP.(: Starkiryu64 (talk) 17:10, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

Congrats on the computer Starkiryu64. That is excellent news :-) MarnetteD|Talk 19:17, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Starkiryu64 (talk) 01:23, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Hi, I was wondering why you reversed my edit on The Picture of Dorian Gray? Template Book has a section for Wikisource and I don't see why it shouldn't be filled in. Languageseeker (talk) 01:07, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

The same goes for Dracula. Languageseeker (talk) 01:08, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
As my edit summary states there are already links to wikisource in the EL section of the articles. Redundant ELs don't do much for the reader. Placing a link to one external source in the infobox also has WP:POV problems, Why only that link rather than any of several others? Film infoboxes used to have links to several ELs including IMDb. They were removed through consensus for several reasons including the one I mention, If the wikiproject for books has come to a consensus on this item in the infobox. If they have fine but if the haven't it should be discussed on their project talk page. MarnetteD|Talk 02:27, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
I believe that the wikiproject did arrive at a consensus to link to wikisource because that is a part of the template which is locked. I’m going to revert your edit because I believe that the reversal was in error. However, if you feel strongly about this issue, I can always create a community discussion. Languageseeker (talk) 18:58, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
I don't have a strong opinion on this, but I will note that, in at least one case (official websites), it's very common to have an EL duplicated in the infobox and the "External links" section. e.g. the featured article J. K. Rowling. If your position is that wikisource links should categorically never go in infoboxes, then I think you should start a discussion to seek consensus to have the parameter removed from the template. BTW, there's a somewhat related discussion going on here about automatically populating the link via wikidata. Colin M (talk) 20:05, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts Colin M. For me repetition like that is sloppy. OTOH it is just one of many sloppy things around here and I suspect I do some editing that others will feel fit into this category :-) Thanks for the link to the other discussion as well. Regards. MarnetteD|Talk 00:06, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

FYI, dead links should be noted properly within the <ref> tags in the first instance, not removed entirely. Removing it makes rescue impossible. See WP:DEADREF. Also at least one of the refs you removed was not a dead link at all. Seany91 (talk) 09:01, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

It would be nice if you would provide an example but I can say that if there is another ref for the item removing a dead link is appropriate. MarnetteD|Talk 19:15, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grace_Cutler&action=history Seany91 (talk) 09:01, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
Well I messed that up but you will notice that I did use the dead link template. Apologies. MarnetteD|Talk 16:23, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
That's not how the dead link template works. If you don't repair the supposed dead link using Wayback Machine or something, you need to keep the <ref> tags with the actual link in place, then add the dead link template after. Without it, no one would know which was the initial dead link to fix. Anyway, you really should read WP:DEADREF in detail because it says more clearly than what I can here. Seany91 (talk) 06:56, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
@Seany91: No, the {{dead link}} doesn't go after the <ref>...</ref> tags - it goes inside. Per Template:Dead link#Usage, para. 4: Append this template directly after the link (after the link code's terminating ] if you are using wikitext), or, if you are using a {{cite xxx}} template, directly after the {{cite xxx}} transclusion (not inside it), but inside the reference, if any, i.e. before the </ref>. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:36, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
Yeah you're right, typed too fast. The point is that one shouldn't remove the URL of the supposed dead link. Seany91 (talk) 07:47, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
As I said I messed up my edit. I deleted the ref by mistake. I've done 10s of 1000s of these and mistakes can happen. Again my apologies and thanks for fixing things. MarnetteD|Talk 14:03, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Boo!
