International Jew - Picture

edit
  • Great work--adding the Picture of the book!!!
  • I have just bought,
from a rare book dealer/company a copy of the First Edirion of the "Compiled and Edited" Protocols of Zion of 1934, which was published by THE PATRIOTIC PUBLISHING CO. But I do not know how to import an image. Can you tell me how? Or can I send you the PDF color image(s)? Thanks.
Ludvikus 14:14, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi again Ludvikus! Make sure the picture is a GIF, JPG, or PNG file. I don't think it's a good idea to use PDF files, they are only used as external links at the moment on wikipedia. Once you have the picture as one of those three formats on your computer, you can upload the picture.

First, you go to the "Upload file" link on the left of the screen. It's in that box of links below the search box. It should take you to a screen with a purple box all about images, with some text boxes below. The top one has you locate the image on your computer. The next one has you pick the image's name for wikipedia.

The large box has you describe the image. You should write that you took the picture yourself and that the book was published originally before 1923. This will clear up any doubt that the image is public domain.

The last box on the bottom, "licensing," is the most important one. If you fail to correctly license the image, it will probably be deleted. Because the book was originally published before 1923, you can select "First published in the United States before 1923" under "Copyright expired."

Once you have filled out everything above, you can upload the image. For further information, you can check out Wikipedia:Image use policy, Wikipedia:Uploading images and Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Cheers, The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 22:48, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Good Humor Barnstar

edit

I'm not sure what to say, except... thanks! My second humor barnstar, and it's just as sweet as the first. Yeah, it would make sense for me to go for a cheap laugh right now, but really, that's far too predictable. I truly do appreciate it- it's a cool honor. There are so many high-strung editors on WP, and I'd like to think that we can use this great resource for both reference and fun. -- Kicking222 04:39, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, humor does deserve a spot here—a few laughs a day is often the saving grace of a situation. Cheers, The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 19:07, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm-a Back

edit

I've been gone for a while, preoccupied with stupid ol' real life. Now I've got things under a bit of control, and I've finally checked up on things. HighwayCello has changed signatures yet again? Phaedriel's pregnant? Jimbo watches Lost? Wow, I have been gone. Oh well. So, just to let you know, I'm back.

...was that really necessary? Maybe I'm just craving the human Wikipedian contact.--the ninth bright shiner talk 04:05, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nice to see you back again, Orannis. I wasn't sure if you were bonked or busy, but in any case, I'm happy you didn't leave. On another note, I wasn't aware that Jimbo Wales watches Lost......to tell you the truth, I've never watched the show, but people tell me good things about it. By the way, have you thought of joining a wikiproject that appeals to you? It makes editing a lot easier—instead of wandering by the ebb and flow of your own mind, you have a definite goal, and it helps keep an editor on track. I know that my first five months on wikipedia were very low rates of editing....only after I committed myself did I start doing things. Perhaps it'll help you, maybe not; you are probably busy enough right now outside of wikipedia. Anyway, cheers, The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 20:03, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh, by the way, I wrote an essay here. The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 20:19, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Gavin, I'd like to apologize about the way I was acting yesterday. I shouldn't have been editing wikipedia, there was/is a lot on my mind right now, and I caught myself acting incivil. RE:Help with template

edit

Awhile back I create {{Chinese mythology}}, although I haven't seen its usage exactly take off. Which wikiproject about China would benefit the most from this template? Can you help me categorize it, and alert the right people about it? The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 21:09, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think you could grab all the articles within the Category:Chinese mythology category and subcategories using AWB to stick the template on them. I doubt you need to be very careful about stepping on others' toes; with certain exceptions (like Buddhism?) of course. -- Миборовский 01:10, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'll start to add it in. I want to tell the right wikiproject about it, but I don't see any chinese wikiproject about culture or history........should I just add it to Wikipedia:WikiProject_China#Other_templates? The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 01:24, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
There isn't. So listing it on WP:CHINA would probably be the best. -- Миборовский 03:01, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just created it so he couldn't more than anything - we were talking about it in #wikipedia-en-admins, so I grabbed it ensuring I did it from my account so it was all transparent. Thought that would be fairly obvious... but obviously not? Glen 19:04, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'm not an admin, so I didn't know about the idea. I figured you did it for that reason, but there was an edit to their monobook. I was wondering if it was a bot, or something along those lines. I knew it wasn't a malicious account, which is why I didn't like the fact that it was blocked. I guess I was just curious. The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 21:51, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Actually I'll delete the monobook now. I did that as my monobook is highly customised and I cant stand the look of the "standard" one. To be honest I dont know why Nick did that, as he was right there in the channel with me at the time! Odd. As I said, not worried as I only grabbed it to fuck Karmafist off so he couldnt have it :) Blocked is blocked. Thanks for the reply Glen 21:54, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Editing question

edit

How are you, ikiroid,

I wonder if you might tell me how to recover an article I wrote that others have mangled...(copying prior versions from "history" ?!?)...

Much thanks, Res q68 22:59, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The history page

I believe you are thinking of reverting back to an earlier version of a page. Here's how to go about it. First, you must find which revision you want it to be. You can click on the dates (7 in the picture) to view the article at that time, or you can click "last" (5 in the picuture) to see the differences made between the two revisions (informally called diffs). Once you have clicked on the version you want, you should see a date below "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia." Click "edit this page." There should be a red notice that says You are editing a prior version of this page. If you save it, any changes made since this version will be removed. Ignore it, write "reverting" in the edit summary, and save it. It should work. Tell me if you have any trouble. The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 21:47, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the compliment! Well Anomo, it's a bit hard to explain the page. The editor wrote a 4 page unintelligible dissertation on love, oppression, and existentialism, and then they implicitly threatened to kill some editors on a talkpage. You can ask an admin to temporarily restore the page for you if you want, it's quite trippy. The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 01:49, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Persistent and unending dispute with Mr Conradi

edit

I am, apparently, a newbie at this kind of dispute resolution. I have no idea what to do, but ask you, since you have dealt with Mr Conradi before, to please see [1] and advise me what the correct procedure is. I have endeavoured to correct material errors in his edits, as well as to remove inappropriate references to myself, and he simply reverts every time. He is well over the three-reverts rule. I am probably also over the rule, but my reverts have in every case attempted to correct and improve the article, while his have simply been gainsaying. Please help. Thank you. -- Evertype· 13:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Admin coaching, etc.

edit

Are you ready to get started?

The waiting time over at Admin coaching is long (some people have been waiting in line since July). I'm an admin coach with the project, and for my students I set up a group discussion page so that we could all learn from each other. The scope of this concept has expanded into the Virtual classroom, which is an open forum for the teaching and learning of advanced Wikipedia skills.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, as a student, as a coach, or both. Every week or two a new major topic of discussion or classroom assignment is introduced, usually with a guest writer who presents his or her expertise on the current subject and who remains on hand to answer questions. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions, such as sharing your expertise, asking and answering questions, etc.

The current topic of discussion is vandalism, and our guest writer is Budgiekiller.

All discussions are open-ended, so all previous discussion topics and classroom assignments are still there for viewing and further participation. There are also sections for posting miscellaneous topics and questions, requesting coaching assistance, etc.

In addition to inviting those who would like to learn, I routinely invite experts from all over Wikipedia to come and contribute for the benefit of all. The VC is rapidly turning into a clearing house of the best resources, methods, and techniques known for working on Wikipedia.

You are cordially invited to participate.

Here's an announcement box which you can place on your userpage or at the top of your talk page for keeping up to date with classroom assignments.

I hope to see you there. Sincerely,  The Transhumanist    08:27, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Belated help

edit

On the WP:WS talk page there is discussion about using script vs alphabet in certain article titles. Mostly script gets through but Latin script and Greek script may get pushback, unless we can really do what the numismatic folk have done in terms of terminology and consensus. -- Evertype· 12:05, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Concordia Newsletter

edit

  NEWSLETTER

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

Help out now!

edit
  • Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
  • Give people the Civility Barnstar.
  • Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
  • Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
  • Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

Decision Making

edit

The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

Admin coaching

edit

Hello Ikiroid, as it came to know that you are interested to get admin coaching, I will try to help you in this. Please make a seperate page for admin coaching, e.g. User:Ikiroid/Admin coaching to avoid the discussions on several pages. Please inform me if you are interested. Shyam (T/C) 19:58, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Shyam! You left a message on my talkpage regarding admin coaching. I went ahead and created a subpage where you suggested, so I'm reporting back. How do you want to go about this? Do I ask a series of questions, and then have you answer them? Or do you begin with the questions? The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 02:23, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speedy Deletion Tags

edit

Hello, Ikiroid. Just thought that I'd let you know that when you nominate an article for speedy deletion, you need to specify which part of the deletion criteria the article falls under. After all, even if the article looks like complete rubbish, you still have to specify why it qualifies for speedy deletion. Happy editing! -- P.B. Pilhet / Talk 04:12, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi P.B. Thanks for the note, I'm familiar with the 11 General and 7 article speedy deletion criteria. Because the article fell somewhere between A1, A7, and possibly G12, I decided to explain it a bit ;-) The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 04:16, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that article was full of rule violations. Basically what I was getting at is that I like it when people list at least one rule in the deletion tag that specifies why the article qualifies for a speedy (like, This article is about a non-notable person (Article 7)). Notice the Article 7 in the description. I guess it doesn't matter much, though. I simply think it makes it easier for admins to identify the exact rule that was broken :-) -- P.B. Political Correctness

edit

You are ignorant of the problems in America tody. You are unaware of the disease that is spreading. This disease, as you may already know, is political correctness. Political correctness is the practice of appeasing people for some made up greviance towards this particular person. Homosexuals, Blacks, Chinese, and Islamics are the most common of the appeased. We put these people on a pedistal above other people; when we do this we break the "equal rights for all" rule. My friend, perhaps you know realize what a mistake you make when reffering to Blacks as African Aericans (Because not all blacks are from Africa), Homosexuals Gays, Islamics Middle-esterners, and midgets little people.

Political Correctness is Rascism with two words. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Data-files (talkcontribs)
