- Good advice:
- I'm not opposed to an AfD nom, especially as Wikipedia tends to poorly manage controversial BLP articles of borderline notability, where Twitter feuds, conference attendances, or brief controversies become immortalized and given disproportionate emphasis. Things can be verifiable without being encyclopedic. Dutton-related content in the Undark piece are primarily related to Kevin MacDonald, and so seems undue to develop into an article on Dutton. The Gaudie is a student newspaper with unclear reliability, and thus should not be used as a sole source for anything contentious (is "Aidan Bridgeman, a University of Aberdeen student" really a notable voice an encyclopedia should highlight and namecheck, or is it just "some undergrad blogging"?). Hope Not Hate gives him a two paragraph profile in their 2021 State of Hate, and only passing mention in Patriotic Alternative. The Helsinki Times gives a recap of one of Dutton's studies, but this seems pretty typical of academia: scientists or studies are commonly mentioned in newspapers or magazines. If the impact of a study cannot be stated in Wikipedia without WP:OR or WP:SYNTH, the result is essentially "this paper exists. This other paper exists. So what?" Which may not violate specific policy or guidelines, but is bad composition, leading to verifiable but questionable cruft like: "he once posted X on YouTube. He attended a conference attended by controversial people. He was on a podcast. He bought a house for £500,000. He has two dogs. He likes chocolate ice cream..." There may well be sufficient scholarly reviews of his books to satisfy WP:AUTHOR#3 that can contextualize his research and better demonstrate enduring notability from a broader view. --Animalparty! You deserve this especially for assisting in the improvement of articles relating to the Independent Sacramental Movement. One subject improvement alongside articles would be the creation of the article for the Catholicate of the West. TheLionHasSeen (talk) 18:27, 25 November 2021 (UTC) |
