Name change in article

edit

Shouldn't Li Ke be known as "Yennaris" in the article, through his English career? It's not like he's changed his name by deed poll, he's only taken on Chinese nationality. Beatpoet (talk) 18:41, 31 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I’m unsure how I feel about the name change of the article all together. Shouldn’t Li/Yennaris and Hou Yongyong/John Hou Sæter abide by WP:COMMONNAME? Especially as in English language media their birth name is still being used almost exclusively. Fair enough using the Chinese names on the Chinese Wikipedia, but on the English Wikipedia I’m not so sure. JSWHU (Talk page) 06:13, 1 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
For me he should be Nico Yennaris, as before, with a simple "known in China as Li Ke". Colin Kazim-Richards' article hasn't been done out in this style, despite him taking on Turkish nationality and Turkish names. Beatpoet (talk) 15:38, 1 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Exactly my thinking. If his, and John Hou Sæter’s, Chinese names become commonplace then by all means change it to them. But for now I’d err on the side of caution and stick with their native names. Similar to the eSwatini/Swaziland naming debate on here a while back. JSWHU (Talk page) 16:04, 1 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

All English language news outlets I can find are still referring to him as Nico Yennaris. I don't see any justification for changing the article name. EJBH (talk) 15:27, 1 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have undone the page move as undiscussed and controversial. @Alexchen4836: - please use WP:RM in future. GiantSnowman 16:16, 1 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

"Li Ke" (Chinese: 李可; pinyin: Lǐ kě) certainly a transcription of "Nico" in Chinese, but it certainly not the common name of the footballer in English language. Unless he is a naturalized Chinese international footballer (which never happened), such alias in foreign language ("foreign " respecting to English) should not be the WP:Article titles of the footballer, it fit none of the criteria.
