Article Name
editThe article name is significantly problematic. The art of atarashii naginata is universally known simply as "Naginata" by practitioners, and naginatajutsu is used only to refer to relatively rare koryu arts. I'd like to fix this by splitting "Naginata" into "Naginata (weapon)" and "Naginata (martial art)" and making this page a redirect to the latter. I'll wait a week before doing this, in case anyone has any objections. Susan Davis (talk) 16:17, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- This seems to be done, though there's an argument in favour of a separate atarashii naginata main article to distinguish koryu naginatajutsu from gendai Naginata. Susan Davis (talk) 17:34, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
Modern Sport
editThe following was in the "Modern Sport" section:
In Meiji period, Naginata-jutsu became very rare skill (because all the Koryu naginata kata, enemy uses sword, so it needed sword skill also). Sakakida-Yaeko, the Tento-ryu naginata-jutsu Hanshi, and her collaborator makes naginata-do and the kata (Shikake-Ohij 8hon). It is a competition naginata vs naginata. (Ref) the Kendo-Nippon monthly, July,1982 page 61-65)
I can't really follow what's being said here; if another editor could clean it up and edit it back in, that'd be awesome. Susan Davis (talk) 17:33, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
