File:Australian Mounted Police Victoria-edit1.jpg to appear as POTD soon
editHello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Australian Mounted Police Victoria-edit1.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on March 2, 2011. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2011-03-02. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 17:33, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
Images should be moved to gallery
editthe formatting of the images at the top of the article is bad here, particularly the display on desktop. their should be a Gallery section at the end in which the images are moved there. I don't know how to make that though. Thank you
Expansion
editI am not an expert in this field, but this article is ripe for expansion. Recent cost cutting measures have caused numerous mounted units around the country to be disbanded (as described by these two NY Times articles: [1] [2] ) It is something to be examined and resources for expansion, if necessary. - I created a new section on the reductions, but it still needs to be expanded. - M0rphzone (talk) 03:51, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
The Oldest Mounted Unit in the country
editI see nothing listed here about the Cleveland Mounted Unit, originally the Cleveland Cavalry. It is the oldest and highly recognized. It should absolutely be mentioned here. Loalife87 (talk) 05:18, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
- Feel free to find a source to verify this and add it. If you need help, just post the source URL here with the wording you propose and we can work together. Montanabw(talk) 06:54, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
Elephantasy?
editWeren't there pachyderm-mounted police in some Indian jurisdictions under the British Raj? I know they were used in battle from ancient times, in India and SE Asia, and to a more ltd extent in n Africa (Hannibal & Carthaginians), though African elephants don't seem to have been domesticated as commonly as Asian ones. I have no sources. Sorry. ragity (talk) 16:52, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- The British did use elephants to haul batteries of heavy artillery in India up until at least 1895. However they would probably have been too large and slow for police work. You are certainly correct about their extensive use in battle during the pre-colonial era. Buistr (talk) 21:28, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
Tasmanian Tigers
editThe section under Uses, on mounted police in Tasmania says that Tasmanian Tigers were used to pull sleds in winter. This seems like a bit of vandalism, unless it's well-known local jargon for some other arrangement. I plan to delete it unless I can find some justification. Monado (talk) 03:54, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
