Intro
editI find the wording in this sentence a bit suspect:
In software engineering, a directory is a map of the differences between names and values.
—I've never heard "differences" used in this context before. Can someone verify that this is a correct usage. Because I think the author meant "relationship" or "pairing" or even "correlation". Differences just sounds awkward here.--71.189.229.26 (talk) 14:22, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Reads/writes
edit"distinguish a traditional directory service from a typical relational database. Of course there are exceptions, but in general: directory information is read more often than it is written"
As an RDBMS user, this sounds odd to me. Are we really claiming that RDBMS data is written more often than it's read? Citation needed! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.232.11.50 (talk) 19:52, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Terminology: Nodes
editIn what way is a name similar to a node, as those in a linked list? I find the use of this term unclear. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.47.86.132 (talk) 14:02, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Advertising
editI've deleted the following text from the Introduction section, which seems to have been entered by someone who thought this was an article on phone books:
- A directory service is also a means for advertising. The specifics of such advertisements solely credentials the advertising a business wishes to list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Clayhalliwell (talk • contribs) 18:47, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
