Title
editI am tempted to go with massacre or battle even for the title, any thoughts? IvoShandor 04:12, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Murders is a pretty harsh word, and I think it is something that the people then named it. I would go with battle.--Kranar drogin 04:24, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
GA Review
editOn Hold for some queries. Overall, a good piece well written and well referenced with one major issue and a few minor ones.
- Any chance of an image here? Although obviously it is unlikely that the attacks themslves would be represented, is there any possibility of pictures of the area or of the Ho-Chunk? Its not the end of the world if one cannot be found, but one would be nice.
- The fort site is marked, but not open to the public because its archaeological significance. There are some free use images of just Ho-Chunk warriors available, maybe a few of the Prophet White Cloud, but they would only be peripherally related to the event. I can add one if you think it would help. IvoShandor 20:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- In additon, when I complete my tour of the Black Hawk War battle sites (I live in the area) I may be able to obtain a picture of the area where the attacks happened, though its probably much different now than it was then, of course. IvoShandor 21:11, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- From intro, "as large as 100 warriors, attacked two militia men who were investigating noises heard the night before. Two members of the militia were killed in the attack, both bodies were badly mutilated." Not clear whether there were two militia men present or two killed from a larger party. I know it explains this below, but please clarify the sentence in the lead.
- Will do.IvoShandor 20:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- This is done. IvoShandor 21:09, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- The final two line paragraph of the Prelude section should be merged into the section below, it doesn't make sense where it is.
- I will move the final paragraph but the first one isn't part of the attacks and I think it goes better in the prelude section, as it is why the attacks happened, thus the prelude. IvoShandor 20:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- And so that's what you said, I skipped some of the words reading your comment I guess, sorry. IvoShandor 20:56, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- This is done. IvoShandor 21:09, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- You have duplicated the following clauses "A number of other engagements followed, and" and "Black Hawk found no allies he attempted to return to Iowa, but events overtook him and led to the Battle of Stillman's Run." Please remove one of each duplication.
- Ah yes, probably happened when I expanded the prelude section. I will look that over.IvoShandor 20:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- This is done. IvoShandor 21:09, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- Was any retribution taken against the Ho-Chunk? It sounds like they were let off due to fears of a two-front war, but please clarify this if it is the case.
- Not sure, I have been researching the war for weeks and haven't found much info on this. After the end of the war (which this "battle" has little to do with) some of the Ho-Chunk that sided with Black Hawk were captured and held with him, the only person mentioned by name is White Cloud. I can add this but as for the Ho-Chunk around Blue Mounds (White Cloud lived near present-day Rockford, Illinois) I am not sure what happened to them. I can dig and see what I come up with but fear the only citable info I have along those lines concerns White Cloud. IvoShandor 20:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
I also jiggled a couple of sentances which I thought were presented in the wrong order. If you have a problem with thet then let me know. In all a good piece but requiring some minor twinges and if possible an image.--Jackyd101 14:18, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- Good and speedy work, well done. If you can get hold of any useful image then please add it to the article, but I feel that the piece is good enough without an image to pass GA. I fiddled a little with that two-line paragraph again, if its a problem then change it back, but I feel it scans a little better this way. Good job and congratulations.--Jackyd101 01:33, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
GA Sweeps Review: Pass
editAs part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. I'm specifically going over all of the "Conflicts, battles and military exercises" articles. I realize that the article was passed just last month, but I'm going through all of the Conflicts articles so I might as well make sure the article still has its high quality. I believe the article currently meets the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. I made a few minor corrections, but there were no major problems with the article. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I have edited the article history to reflect this review.
