Professor Dr. Ahmad Ali is a renowned Islamic scholar, Arabic linguist, researcher, and educator from Bangladesh. He currently serves as a professor in the Islamic Studies Department at Chittagong University.[1]. With a prolific career as an author and speaker, Dr. Ahmad Ali has made significant contributions to Islamic research, particularly in the areas of Islamic law, theology, and Arabic literature. His work is recognized nationally and internationally, and his scholarly output has had a lasting influence on Islamic studies in Bangladesh[2]
Early Life and Education
editDr. Ahmad Ali was born in 1969 in West Kalauzhan village under Lohagara upazila in the Chittagong district. He exhibited academic excellence from an early age, securing the highest marks in the B.A. (Honors) Examination from the University of Chittagong, for which he received the prestigious Elite Paint best student Scholarship. He also received the Vickkhu Silachar Sastri Award for securing the highest marks in his M.A. Final Examination. His academic journey continued with a Ph.D. from the same institution, during which he was awarded the Chittagong University Academic Scholarship. In addition, Dr. Ahmad Ali earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Training Arabic Teachers for Non-Arabic Speakers from King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he was also awarded a scholarship for his academic performance.
Academic and Professional Life
editDr. Ahmad Ali began his career as Muhaddith and Vice Principal at Chunati Hakimia Kamil Madrasha, Chittagong, from 1994 to 1996[3] . He then joined the University of Chittagong as a Lecturer in the Department of Arabic and Persian in March 1996. Over the years, he progressed through various academic ranks, serving as an Assistant Professor from 1999 to 2003, Associate Professor from 2003 to 2008, and Professor from 2008 onwards in the Department of Islamic Studies.
In addition to his teaching roles, Dr. Ahmad Ali has held several administrative positions, including Chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Chittagong from 2015 to 2016[4] . He also served as Senior House Tutor at A.F. Rahman Hall, University of Chittagong, and was the Vice Principal of Chunati Hakimia Kamil Madrasha during his early career.
Dr. Ahmad Ali is actively involved in various academic and research organizations[5] . He is the acting editor of the quarterly research journal Islami Ain o Bicher, published by the Bangladesh Islamic Law Research & Legal Aid Centre[6]. His other affiliations include membership in the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (Chittagong Chapter), Bangladesh Islamic Centre, and the Universal League of Islamic Literature (Riyadh Chapter). He has also served as an expert member on the selection board for teachers at International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) and the Faculty of Shariah & Islamic Studies at Islamic University, Kushtia.
Dr. Ahmad Ali has presented research papers at numerous international seminars, including a notable presentation at a 3-day seminar in 2013 on "Jurisprudence of Priority in Hajj" organized by the Ministry of Hajj in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. His professional experience also includes part-time roles as Professor in the Masters in Islamic Studies program at IIUC and Muhaddith at Darul Ulum Alia Madrasah, Chittagong.
