"The universe is littered with the bones of those who dare to think otherwise." |
Zangya (ザンギャ Zangya) is one of Bojack's four Galaxy Soldiers in Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound.
Appearance[]
Zangya has long, curly orange hair, bluish skin, blue eyes, and pointed ears. She wears a white jacket and pants with gold buckles, gold, pointed necklace and earrings, a blue undershirt, black pull-on sleeves, a purple sash, and yellow and black boots. However, due to the lighting of the magma chamber where she fought Krillin, she briefly appeared to have light yellow or green skin.
In Akira Toriyama's original concept designs for the film, Zangya had red hair and a green skin tone. This color scheme is the same as that of Bojack and Kogu when they took on the Full Power (Hera Clan) form.
Personality[]
Like Bojack and the rest of the Galaxy Soldiers in her debut appearance, Zangya is cruel and merciless, being characterized as "a deadly beauty" in her case as seen during her battle with Krillin who was too awestruck by her beauty to fight. Unlike the other members of her team, she was shown capable of feeling fear as seen when Gohan as a Super Saiyan 2 killed two of her teammates in front of her before making his way toward her.
Biography[]
Super Dragon Ball Heroes[]
Supreme Kai of Time Saga[]
Zangya's Bojack Unbound incarnation appears as one of the competitors in the Super Space-Time Tournament, along with his comrades. In the manga, Zangya battles Zarbon in a forest.[8] As a result of her team failing to advance to the second round of the tournament, Zangya and her space-time were erased.
Demon Invader Saga[]
In one particular Space-Time, Zangya is absorbed by Majin Ozotto.[9]
Film Appearances[]
Bojack Unbound[]
Zangya encounters Krillin at the Battle Zone, which is full of lava. Krillin unknowingly takes her for being one of the official participants, unaware of her actually being a part of Bojack's Galaxy Soldiers. While Krillin is stunned by her beauty, Zangya charges at him and easily takes him down with a few well placed strikes and takes his unconscious body to Bojack. Later Gohan arrives followed shortly after by Yamcha and Tien Shinhan. Zangya and Bido take down Yamcha with ease while Bujin does the same with Tien Shinhan.
The three Galaxy Soldiers then team up against Gohan and gain an advantage against him with numbers on their side. Later when Future Trunks, Piccolo and Vegeta arrive, Zangya pummels Trunks while he is tangled in Bido's Psycho Thread with Bojack finishing him off. With only Gohan still standing, Zangya and the others paralyze him with the same technique until his fathers words urge him to continue fighting. Gohan transforms into a Super Saiyan 2 and easily breaks the threads surrounding him, before killing Bido and Bujin. This feat causes Zangya to backs away in fear, Bojack appears behind her and attempts to distract Gohan by pushing Zangya in front of him and shoots an energy sphere through her at Gohan, killing Zangya. But that didn't work and in the end, Gohan ended up killing Bojack.
Fusion Reborn[]
Along with countless other Dragon Ball Z antagonists, Zangya makes a cameo appearance when the residents of Hell make their escape to Earth because of Janemba's appearance.

Dragon Ball Legends[]
In Age 780 some time after the Tournament of Power, Beerus and King Kai are forced to set up the Tournament of Time by a mysterious Mastermind who had kidnapped Shin. The Galaxy Soldiers are among those who end up participating in the tournament which due to King Kai's explaination of the tournament leads them to believe that the winner will get a chance to make a wish using the Super Dragon Balls. Bojack joins forces with the Organization of Babidi who have been secretly working with Turles, Frost and the rogue Frieza Force faction he leads under the guise of being the true "Final Form Frieza", Dr. Gero, Android 19, and the Cooler Force. 1st form Frieza defeats Frost with the assistance of the Saiyan Army Remnants (Vegeta, Nappa, and their pupil Shallot). Frieza ends up forging an alliance with Turles and Dr. Gero in exchange for them supplying the Frieza Force with Fruit of the Tree of Might. However this leads Frieza to betray his Saiyan allies, which results in Vegeta's death and Shallot becomes a Super Saiyan defeating and killing Frieza. Turles is defeated by Super Saiyan Shallot and inadvertently freed of the Dark Ki that was controlling him, though he is killed by Babidi's mysterious Ancient Saiyan ally the Saiyan in Red.
After Shallot deals with Dr. Gero and his army of Android 19s and remote controlled Android 20s, Android 16 is able to remind Dr. Gero of his original goal, freeing him from the Dark Ki before he perishes. Dabura aids the mad doctor's latest creation, New Cell in absorbing Shallot's allies Android 17 and Android 18, he asks New Cell to host the Super Cell Games so the Organization of Babidi can gather more Kili, supplying Boujack and Cooler to act as his teammates as the Super Cell Games is a team battle royale against New Cell's team. Boujack ends up fighting Shallot's student Cabba and Android 16. Putting his faith in his allies, Android 16 decides to use his Last Resort to take out Boujack so his teammates can focus on New Cell and Cooler. Thankfully Bulma (Youth) didn't find his Android Bomb allowing Android 16's plan to succeed, as while Boujack survives, he is left badly injured which puts him out of action for a while. Meanwhile New Cell kills Final Form Cooler after he attempts to destroy the Earth with a Supernova which is stopped by Shallot and Bardock. New Cell himself is ultimately slain by the combined might of Super Saiyan 2 Gohan (Youth) and Super Saiyan 2 Shallot.
Shallot eventually learns that Ribrianne of the Kamikaze Fireballs had been brainwashed with the Dark Ki by the wizard Babidi and finds that he had also brainwashed Kale, though she is freed with the help of Caulifla. Babidi convinces Shallot and Team Beerus that he is the Mastermind behind Shin's kidnapping unleashing Innocent Buu who defeats Shallot, who manages to escape.
Babidi decides to launch a large scale attack sending his subordinates and allies to attack the Capitol and any Tournament participants that might come to Team Beerus' aid. Cabba and Trunks (Youth) defend the Capitol while Shallot and present Goku train in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber in the hope Shallot can achieve Super Saiyan 3. Among those he sends to invade the Capitol are the now recovered Boujack and Zangya who lead a group of Dark Ki empowered Combatants. Super Saiyan Full Power Cabba and Super Saiyan Trunks (Youth) manage to hold their own against them and Boujack orders Zangya and her underlings to attack, though unbeknownst to her or their underlings, Boujack planned to fire a energy attack at the two Super Saiyans with total disregard for his underlings, Zangya included which is not surprising given her fate in Bojack Unbound. However Cabba manages to escape the attack with Trunks (Youth). Ironically, Boujack's willingness to kill his allies and clanswoman end up working against him, as once Cabba confirms how little his subordinate's lives mean to him, he achieves his Super Saiyan 2 form angered by the sacrifice of Android 16 and Boujack's willingness to sacrifice his own underlings. Despite taking on his Full Power Hera Clan form, Boujack is still overpowered by the pair and even resorts to using Dark Ki alongside his Full Power form. However he is ultimately slain and with Zangya both are returned to their proper era with no memory of the tournament. However, another Zangya ends becoming one of the many tournament participants brainwashed to serve the Mastermind's group after Babidi is revealed to be another puppet controlled by the Dark Ki and killed by Shallot's twin brother Giblet, the true identity of the Saiyan in Red who has been working for tf true Mastermind all along. This Zangya is sent along with several other fighters to interrupt Shallot's Super Saiyan God ritual. However Shallot's allies manage to hold them off.
Though Kogu, Bido, and Bujin survive and after the true Mastermind is revealed to be Zahha who had been acting as Shallot and Cabba's ally, the three surviving Galaxy Soldiers join the Mastermind's group to take revenge on Cabba, Trunks (Youth), and Gohan (Youth) for the death of Bojack (and presumably Zangya as they do not seem to be aware that she was killed by Bojack himself). While fighting Cabba, the Galaxy Soldiers mock him by claiming he couldn't even beat Zangya let alone Bojack.
Power[]
- Film
In Bojack Unbound like the rest of the Galaxy Soldiers, Zangya is extremely powerful, as she was able to easily defeat Krillin in a single blow. Together with Bido, the duo easily defeat Yamcha. She, Bujin, and Bido are able to overcome Super Saiyan Full Power Gohan by ganging up on him, with her evenly fighting Gohan by herself, and is briefly shown fighting evenly with Future Trunks in his Super Saiyan Second Grade form without receiving any damage.
Like the rest of her crew, she was no match at all against Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 form, and is easily killed by a Dirty Criminal attack from Bojack after being intimidated by the power of Gohan's new form. However, unlike Bujin and Bido who died by the hands of the young, teenage warrior, Zangya didn't actually fight Gohan, instead, she walked away because she was horrified of Gohan's awakened potential.
In Fusion Reborn, she escaped like the other villains when Gohan kills Frieza in his base form (showing that she's no match against base Gohan as an adult).
- Video Games
In Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Zangya was seen fighting against Beat's in his Super Saiyan Blue form.
In Dragon Ball Legends, Kogu, Bido, and Bujin mock Cabba by claiming he couldn't defeat Zangya let alone Bojack, pointing out that Zangya is weaker than Bojack.

Trivia[]
- Her name is derived from the Japanese word zangyaku, which means "cruelty" or "brutality."
- In Toriyama's original design, her hair is red, and her skin is green (same with Bujin, Bido and Kogu)—a marked surprising similarity to transformed Bojack and Kogu. Her final design has her with light teal (sea) color for her skin, although she did initially appear to have greenish-yellow skin when fighting Krillin due to the lighting inside the lava chamber.
- Zangya looks very similar to Android 18 with her facial structure. Krillin was known to find both women to be physically attractive.
- Humorously enough, Zangya herself comments on how cute she finds Krillin to Android 18 in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, prompting an irritated Android 18 to call Zangya a skank in older versions of the game before the two fight.
- Zangya is the only member of the Galaxy Soldiers to have an American English accent in the film's Funimation dub.
- Her Sliding attack resembles a baseball slide, and she used the attack on Yamcha who—funnily enough—is a pro baseball player for the Taitans.
- Zangya is the only female henchman to appear in a Dragon Ball Z movie, but she's not the first one in the franchise as whole; Pasta from Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies, a human who serves King Gurumes, was the first. Interestingly, they both have orange hair and blue eyes.
- Unlike Pasta, Zangya remains as a henchwoman rather than being revealed to be the ultimate antagonist within her film debut, and Zangya does not survive the events of her film unlike Pasta.
- Zangya is one of several movie henchmen to die at the hands of the villain they serve—a fate she shares with Commander Zeeun, Moah, Tagoma, Shisami, several Combatants involved with Frieza's revenge, and Paragus (DBS). This makes her the only member of the Galaxy Soldiers not to be killed by any of the Z Fighters as Bido, Bujin, and Bojack were killed by Super Saiyan 2 Gohan while Kogu was killed by Super Saiyan Future Trunks.
- Along with Kogu, this makes the two Galaxy Soldiers members the only members not to be killed by Super Saiyan 2 Gohan.
- In Super Butoden 2, it was hinted that Bojack would avenge Zangya in spite of how he cared not for her in the original movie and was the one who killed her in the first place. Ironically, Bojack killed Zangya once again during the Tournament of Time in Dragon Ball Legends.
