Biography[]

Ayuzhan was a member of the Yshari Clan. He hoped the Mage Clans would convene more often in Caldeum, as he found the debates lively, but not petty (a rarity for the city).^[2]

The Loom[]

At some point after the Dark Exile, Ayuzhan worked with Zoltun Kulle.^[3] Ayuzhan constructed an underground complex called the Gatehall.^[2] They stole Vizjerei constructs and made them their own using a device called the Loom,^[3] which Ayuzhan helped Kulle construct.^[4] They planned to use the constructs as weapons against Heaven and Hell so that humanity could flourish on Sanctuary.^[3] However, they never designed the constructs to kill.^[2]

Kulle abandoned the project, which caused a rift between the pair.^[3] The two argued, but Kulle left regardless.^[2] One night, as Ayuzhan slept, the demon Malphas possessed him, taking advantage of Ayuzhan's isolation and the cracks in his mind. Ayuzhan apparently woke up during or just prior to the possession, as he beheld Malphas as a red mist.^[5][2]

Having enthralled Ayuzhan, Malphas used him to repair the Loom Kulle had destroyed.^[2]

Season of the Construct[]

In 1336, the Wanderer entered the Gatehall and subdued him, exorcising Malphas from Ayuzhan's body.^[5] Ayuzhan introduced himself to his savior, and explained that Malphas had taken control of the Gatehall. The Wanderer explained that the demon had also possessed people in Gea Kul. Ayuzhan repaired the Wanderer's Seneschal, and the pair headed for Kulle's study. The Wanderer successfully bypassed the traps the pair had designed, and fought off attacking constructs, which Ayuzhan realized had been corrupted by Malphas. They found Kulle's study, abandoned, but the Wanderer handed Ayuzhan a sealed letter left by Kulle, which explained that he had destroyed the Loom and sealed the tunnels below them. Ayuzhan pointed out that he could hear the Loom operating beneath them, despite Kulle's claims.^[2]

It was at this point that Ayuzhan caught sight of his reflection in the mirror. He realized that he had become an old man, and wondered how many years had passed. Malphas whispered to them, explaining that he had used Ayuzhan to repair the Loom. The pair were attacked by a Herald of Malphas and its corrupted constructs, but the Wanderer was able to defeat Malphas's minions. Ayuzhan told the Wanderer to meet him back at the Gatehall.^[2]

Ayuzhan appeared in Season of the Construct in Diablo IV. He first appeared as a boss as "Ayuzhan, Possessed Sorcerer," at the end of the quest "The Yshari." He later aided the player as an NPC.

• Prior to the release of Season of the Construct, Ayuzhan was said to be a member of the Ennead Clan. In the season itself however, he is stated to be a member of the Yshari Clan.
