Description

With WP 4.0, we got live preview oembed endpoints. Is it possible that we could do the same on some level for shortcodes? Is it even possible for this type of thing?

wpview started with shortcodes in the first place - galleries do it, as do audio/video/embed. Plugins can implement a view for shortcodes as desired. What am I missing here? Automatically making it happen for additional shortcodes? Not sure that's a great idea, particularly for ones with attributes that need to be set.

Yeah, the automatic for user-created shortcodes was the idea, assuming it was possible to do relatively easily. Mostly just throwing the idea out there.

I wasn't aware that the views were pluggable as well, so if it's better to leave this one for the authors themselves, then by all means.

Janneke Van Dorpe has done something like this with her editor experiments.

Edit: I should note that it isn't fully automatic, but I believe it makes things easier than they would be now.

I would love this. Like Shortcodes Ultimate plugin does. But even this is limited. Visual Baker Composer is not limited.
Dont think missing attributes at the first is big problem. Keyword here is editing after. To be able to click on shortcode and again open editing window, just to change something.

As it is now I NEVER give anything that has to do with standard shortcodes to beginners. I try to find other solutions. It is to much for them to ask to be carefull not to delete one wrong character when working with parenthesis. Beside this whole logic behind is bit tiny for web editing beginners. So for now I skip shortcodes at the whole (minus WP Media of course), at least for beginners for use. I use them vastly as developer.

I kind of feel like this could probably be closed as wontfix since we more or less have this now with the Block Editor.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

Re-affirming my belief that this can be closed, thus closing.
