Hi Stavenn,
I’m here just to say that I’m using one of your pics in my Primates pages (yet in construction). Once I like to know where and how my work is eventually used, I think you would like it, too ;)
Congrats for your beautiful work.--Zecoc 09:34, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

- ...and all the others. WTF? Lewis Collard! (lol, internet) 02:15, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- So none of the images you nominated as copyvios were, in fact, copyvios? Lewis Collard! (lol, internet) 02:38, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- Recap: You tagged a lot of your images as copyright violations, when I think it was quite clear they were not. Why did you do this? By the way, I can't delete accounts, but I can delete your user page if you so please. Lewis Collard! (lol, internet) 02:51, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- "Fair use" is not allowed at Commons (the template itself redirects to Copyvio), and isn't even applicable if you took the photos. It is possible for me to delete all your contributions, but I won't do that since 1) I like them all 2) licenses are not revocable. Sorry to hear about your problems. Lewis Collard! Hi, maybe Template:Pink_CC would be of some help: You could specify the attribution, in case someone uses your pic under CC-by-sa-3.0 license. I think you could upgrade your double license that way (however not withdraw any license ever given -- such are the rules to which you agreed by uploading). Bur please ask Collard's opinion on this proposal before doing -- changing licenses is generally not welcome at all (you should meanwhile be aware ;). Best, --WeHaWoe (talk) 16:43, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Use of "QnZ Cygnus buccinator 00.jpg" in illustration
[edit]Stavenn, I'm an artist doing an illustration for Canadian Geographic magazine. The article is about Citizen Scientists in Canada. The magazine gives an award each year for scientist of the year. This year it's given to all the amateurs who contribute their observations and activities to the furtherance of scientific knowledge in all kinds of fields. I want to use your photo 'QnZ Cygnus buccinator 00.jpg' as an element in the piece because one of the subjects of the article is a boy in British Columbia who counts Trumpeter swans. Your swan is a relatively small element of the whole but I wanted to get your credit right. Should I credit it to Stavenn or would you prefer that I use your full name? You can see the piece at: http://www.jwstewart.net/citizen/
Please advise
File:Stavenn_Egretta_thula_00.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 16:02, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Photo usage
[edit]Hi, I've been working on a small game built around animal quizzes and I wanted to let you know I've used one of your pictures.
I found your picture here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Stavenn_Eurypiga_helias_00.jpg
And I attributed the picture like this: Stavenn with this link: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Stavenn and also added a link to the license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/deed.en
I hope you're happy with it, please let me know if this is not the case. You can find the game here: http://apps.facebook.com/animalalbum Or through here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/AnimalAlbum/156339584490672

This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Stavenn Otter Civet (Cynogale bennettii).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
