Thanks a lot for this. Are you aware of any catogory for ordinary jewish priests in the tabernacle/tempel? On the picture, you can see both kinds. And thats what's the swedish title of the illustratíon tells. Överstepräst=High Priest, Präst=Priest.

It would be Kohen for an ordinary priest (as opposed to Kohen Gadol). Kohen is the Hebrew word for priest and gadol is the word for big (Kohen Gadol is literally big priest).

Technically, the etymology of Kohen is actually soothsayer, which is what it still means in Arabic, Syriac, Sumerian, etc., and that of Levite is actually priest in either Minaean (not Minoan) or Luwian (I forget which). But that's not how conservative Jews or Christians traditionally interpret the Bible.

In modern Judaism Kohen is more common as a surname (eg. the Cohen brothers, who are well-known filmmakers). So a category called Kohen would be more about people with the surname.

Hi Newman Luke! In 2009 you uploaded File:TextsOT.PNG. Can you confirm this Encyclopedia Biblica being the source? It seams as if there's no lemma "Old Testament" but in 4th volume there's the lemma "Text and Versions".
