Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:02, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

File:Hakansukur.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

I have already deleted the first version of this image, as it was a copyvio from Getty Images. Do never again upload images that belong to Getty Images agency. They take everybody to court who uses their images within paying for them. --Túrelio (talk) 10:03, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Turkey 1923.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Hakan020.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
:File:Hakan020.jpg ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:Turkey poster.jpg. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk.
The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that this file was not a derivative work of a non-free work, you may request undeletion.

Please try to find out the photographers name (and life dates) for File:Hikmet t.jpg and File:Turkey 1923.jpg. By the way, is that Kemal Ata Türk in the middle of File:Turkey 1923.jpg? --Túrelio (talk) 10:21, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
I think al those images should be deleted because I do not know the names, I dont know if thats Ataturk it does look like him. KirmiziAdam (talk) 10:24, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- How about doing some research for the names? For the old images, it is not pressing. But something has to be done, as a photographer shooting a photo in 1923 may well have lived until 1950. Then his photos might be protected until 2020. You might discuss this (or ask for help) at :tr.--Túrelio (talk) 10:28, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Thats really hard to find out mate, Im glad you warned me about getty images thank you again, I think its better to delete those images because its really impossible to find the photographer. KirmiziAdam (talk) 10:30, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Well, the only one with Getty-like problems is File:Hakansukur.jpg. As I said, the old ones are not an urgent matter. They can stay open for quite some weeks. May be you have (or can find in the library) an somewhat older book about football/basketball in Turkey containing these image and eventually containing an author credit. That's what I would do in your case. But likely on :tr there is Sport portal where you may ask the experts. --Túrelio (talk) 10:40, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
I will do my best, can I contact you in case of any trouble, Im glad you warned me, I take sportpictures myself for almost 25 years now and I never knew how these things on wikipedia were done. KirmiziAdam (talk) 10:41, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- There is no problem at all with pictures shot by yourself. You can license them as you please (so long as the license is compatible with Commons). It's a little bit more complicated with images shot by someone else.
- You can ask me or anyone at the admin board. --Túrelio (talk) 10:45, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you mate I owe you bigtime, I have one more question the file File:Hakan020.jpg. is sourced but its still saying that the source is missing. KirmiziAdam (talk) 10:46, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- I see. User:Denniss added the no-source tag, eventually because he didn't believe the author entry. Now, honestly, this photo was originally shot by yourself? --Túrelio (talk) 10:50, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes, when Sukur started playing football I was in Turkey at the time, thats the match against San Marino in 1992, it was for the World Cup qualifiers I think, I made it Black/White, the original colour photo is in my documents, I sold it a long time ago to a website that wanted to use it, dont know if they still use it. KirmiziAdam (talk) 10:58, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, I've removed no-source-tag. But if that was in 1992, you should correct the date in the description as it says 1994. --Túrelio (talk) 11:01, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

- Who photographed the sculpture? Which license does the original photo have? When you scan a photo, you don’t create a new copyright at all. A photo like https://image.ibb.co/geREae/alparslann.png is a derivative work based on the booklet depicted, not Own work. And the original photo, in turn, is derived off the sculpture. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 11:20, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
I really don't have a clue, I have been owning this picture for quite some time and decided to scan it and customize it for Wikimedia Commons standards, if there is any copyright violation, we better delete it then, thank you for your information. KirmiziAdam (talk) 11:37, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- Intellectual Property is tricky. You can physically own a DVD-ROM with some Microsoft or Adobe software, but it doesn’t entitle you to any rights on the software itself. Try to think in similar terms about photographs. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 12:50, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

- Ullierlich (talk) 10:18, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

File tagging File:Sukru okan.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Sukru okan.jpg.
The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Sukru okan.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

File source is not properly indicated: File:Amiral okan sukru.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Amiral okan sukru.jpg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.
Thank you! |

File:TurkishPeople.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. ~riley (talk) 04:55, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello, let you know : this file is under discussion in Russian Wikipedia. Reliable source of an image is not found for now. Where did you take a description of that image? It's using in few articles but can it be a fake personalization ? ~Fleur~ 07:24, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
