Category Plows
[edit]Hi, please do not remove images from the category plow just to put them on the Plough gallery page. There is currently no concensus about how to categorise images and it would therefore be unwise to take such drastic measures. /Lokal_Profil 00:42, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm not sure if I have understood your message. I have mistaken? But I didn't understand because: I thought it was useful insert the pics in articles and move from Plough many pictures which aren't ploughs. So, in the future I won't do more these operations. I'm afraid, could you advise an administrator to correct my errors? Thanks --gian_d 19:58, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry I might have been unclear. Inserting images in galleries (articles) is very useful. Also removing images which aren't suitable is also good. What I objected to was that you removed the category from the image after you had put it into the gallery. Some people like galleries and some like categories it is therefore best to leave one if you add the other. /Lokal_Profil 00:26, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well! I won't remove more the categories from images. Next time, in these days I restore the categories which I removed from many pics :) --gian_d 16:59, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. Great work on sorting the Plough page btw. =)/Lokal_Profil 18:21, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Idroponica_g4.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Idroponica_g4.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Aiuto!!!
Ciao, scusa. --Emmeauerre due 18:50, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:Bacino_Medau_Zirimilis.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Is Caravius

Juniperus photos
[edit]Hi Gian - your photos Image:Juniperus oxycedrus g1.jpg, Image:Juniperus oxycedrus g2.jpg, Image:Juniperus oxycedrus g3.jpg, Image:Juniperus oxycedrus g4.jpg show Juniperus macrocarpa Sibth. & Sm. (Ginepro coccolone [1]; syn. J. oxycedrus subsp. macrocarpa), not typical Juniperus oxycedrus. Note the broad (2-3mm) leaves and large cones. It might be best to re-upload them with the name amended. Im interested to improve this scheme.
Hello Giancarlodessi,
I seen your gallery of upload and I found that you work is mainly : uploading descriptive macro of insects (top view), natural macro photography, drawing some SVG schemes, making some scaning.
That's frankly really close of what I do : uploading descriptive macro of insects (top view), natural macro photography, drawing some SVG schemes, making some scaning restoring the whites on photographies.
I slowly improve my skills and, some times, write down tutorials, create tools, or some recommendations. Respectively, I created the tutorial Commons:Macro, the tools Image:Macro A4.svg and Image:Macro scales.svg, and the encourage the use of a naming conventions for insect image. I'm interested to both share this and get some feedback, some ideas from your own experience. So, feel free to contact me, share your interesting discovery, project ideas, or any other tips you can get on this several issues. Yug (talk) 21:49, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Yug
- I didn't understood well your purposes. I'm intersted mainly to write articles about our life project in italian Wikipedia and I think that pictures and diagrams are very important for give help to users. But I'm a bad photographer. I enjoy painting with Gimp and Inkscape so, when I cannot take a photo I try to draw an image to improve contents of my articles. I'm very busy in it.wiki project because I'm a writer and sysop, so I can offer very small time in Commons. If I can help for something I try to do my part but it's too hard in that moment. Greetings --gian_d (talk) 00:14, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, noticed. So no worry, what I need the most is comments, ideas and requests, not full/active support. Since you work almost in the same way than me, you may have good ideas to how improve my work, and which tutorials may be helpful to write.
- By example, for macro photography, I'm not really skilled either, but I use a smart white and scaled background when I shoot my picture (I put my insect on a printed version of Image:Macro A4.svg), that allow me to make more encyclopedic picture : with scale. So I notice you this, maybe you will be able to test it one day and give me helpful comments/feedback. Then, I will improve my tools and that will help all other users interested to work in the same way.
- On Image editing, you may be interesting to get tutorials about gimp and color improvement : let me know what "you" need, I will [try to] provide the requested tutorials... which will help every one.
- On SVG of Insects, I will learn from your SVGs ;), and maybe also write a tutorial encouraging to use some colors, etc.
- In sum: I need to know what you think commons' users such you need to improve their skills and images. I perfectly understand that you may be really busy on wikipedia, that's our life !
- Regards, Yug (talk) 10:04, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello Giancarlodessi!
Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.
To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.
You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Hi. I tagged this file as invalid SVG because it fails to pass SVG validator. Would you please fix that? The reason seems to be some sodipodi stuff in the SVG source and/or SVG version 1.0 despite 1.1. Saving the image as "plain SVG" and using SVG version 1.1 in inkscape should fix the problem. Thanks --Georg-Johann (talk) 13:29, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello Giancarlo,
My name is Rita Neves. I work in Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, that is a Public Organism in Portugal.
Actually, we are working on a road book of Biodiversity of Lisbon, for which we are going to produce a panel and a brochure. We found your photos on Wikimedia Commons and liked specially one of them very much, so we would like to know if you could allow us to use your photos, for free, to publish on this project, knowing that the brochure of will be for free distribution to everyone.
The photo we would like to use are the following:
Quercus Ilex http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Quercus_ilex_g1.jpg
The brochure will have four brackets. - Broochura a pocket to take the route - A brochure to present the day of inauguration
- Schedules for species identification - Panels that will be fixed in the Land
As i said the Free Access will be everything :)
If you are the author and provide us that photo, we will refer your name in the bibliografy and we need to know what´s the name you want on the bibliography?
If it´s possible please respond to rita.neves@cm-lisboa.pt
Thank you very much.

tipulid wing
[edit]Hallo! I've got confused on looking through the pointers of your image File:Tipulidae wing veins-1.svg. I've access to some identification keys on dipterans and found there the following phrase about tipulids: "Four branches of R have junctions with the edge of the wing in most species. In a few species only three R veins join with the edge since R2 is reduced." That's strange because on your image R2 doesn't join with C but only with R1 and R3. There's also mentioned that four medial veins exist. Seems to me there's a mistake somewhere in naming of veins. Have you any ideas on that? Mithril (talk) 00:17, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

I also varificated them with Gillott Entomology Third Edition Springer ISBN-10 1-4020-3182-3 They match perfect but in two cases. Thysanoptera and Siphonaptera.
In Syphonaptera according to Gillott (page 234) labial and maxillary palps are present, which I am missing in pic 1.
Most probably someone forgot the palps in "your" drawing. By the way, in Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia Vol. 3 Thomson Gale ISBN 0-7876-5779-4 is said, that "there is only one channel for food and saliva" (p. 281). which is not really, but a "certain" contradiction to the descripton of your pic, where you noted two channels. I think, thats more or less a question of interpretation. Now to the fleas. Again the basic informations do fit: lacinia and epipharynx built the food channel. But Gillot goes on: the piercing organ rests in a grooved prementum. He does not mention maxillary or labial palp nor maxille (other part than lacinia) as shown in pic 2.
For short I had the idea, that you just mixed up the two pictures. I hope you are so interested in the materia, that you will find the time to look after. I would be glad to hear from you. Most friendly --78.43.51.201 16:21, 25 February 2011 (UTC) --Siga (talk) 16:22, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your answer. I uploaded allready the derivates of your six pictures of the flies, butterflies and Hemiptera (as well as a correction of the wrong picture File:Evolution insect mouthparts coloured.png ), the derivates of flees, thripses and Anoplura are ready, but will rest on my PC untill the open questions are solved - no problem for me to wait. I suppose, you made the big part of the italian lemma of mouthparts, which is widly the best of all wikipedia articles (till now :) ) about that subject. It's really great, sincere congratulations. As for me, I am mainly interested in evolution of insects, I wrote the article of insect wings in German Wikipedia de:Flügel (Insekt) also under that point of view. I suppose that many articles (not only in Wikipedia) overlook the fact, that the biting mouthparts of today are also result of evolution and n o t starting point for the different types of sucking mouthparts. Notafly told me, that he will send me some material about insects, perhaps there will be some more information than the information, I posess till now. So, good luck in your new "my home, my castle". Please Stay
[edit]Greetings Giancarlo I understand your problems but please reconsider. Many hundreds, perhaps thousands, of entomology students rely on Wiki for free accurate information. Your work is very valuable and should be available to them.I will write more soon but the library is closing. Very warm regards Robert aka Notafly (talk) 15:32, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Hello! Searching for higher quality version of the image I found that there's no such figure in the source you referred to. Two tables in the end of that paper were made in completely different manner. Could you please remember the real source? Mithril (talk) 07:39, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
