- I don't understand why using this license when I'm the person/author which took the photograph of this license plate (and many others listed on this list). I've used the appropriate license (self|cc-by-sa-4.0), as is the same for this plates:
File:1972 Wyoming license plate.jpg File:1973 Prince Edward Island license plate 75-921.jpg File:South Dakota 1974 license plate - Number 1-32334.jpg File:1976 Sample Michigan License Plate.jpg the list goes on and on.. you get the idea
and yet my images are marked for deletion, and these aren't?? Please explain. v/r Zul32 (talk) 22:34, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- There are two copyright requirements.
- First, you have to consider the copyright of the licence plate. Any US licence plate published without a copyright notice before 1 March 1989 is presumably in the public domain. Other US licence plates are presumably copyrighted (unless from either Florida or California) and you need to obtain permission from the copyright holder before you can upload them here.
- Secondly, you need to consider the copyright of the photograph. COM:ART tells that you don't need permission from the photographer if it's a 2D object such as a painting but you need permission if it is a 3D object such as a coin. File:South Dakota 1981 license plate.jpg and File:North Dakota 1986 Roosevelt license plate.jpg are tagged with {{Cc-zero}}, but there is no evidence that anyone has agreed to that licence. I don't know whether the images can be kept as {{PD-Art|PD-US-1978-89}} or if there are too many 3D effects.
- Apart from those two images, the rest need to be deleted. --Stefan2 (talk) 19:00, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
