@Patrick Rogel: As ISRO falls under Dept. of Space, Govt. Of India, GODL-India is applicable (See also: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Media_in_Category:Unreviewed_photos_of_GODL-India) The ToC is very generic outdated boilerplate text that many Indian Govt. websites appear to use without keeping up-to-date with GoI edicts Ohsin (talk) 17:36, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Following up other discussion, may be attributing them to Department of Space (which is synonymous with ISRO) would solve the issue. These images (one and two), have same source but one is filed under Department of Space while both should be simply treated as Govt of India works. All reviewed or unreviewed GODL-India images would need re-qualification for this. Ohsin (talk) 18:33, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ohsin: These two are OK since published by the Press Information Bureau. Most others are not and haven't been reviewed yet. For example File:OPV_ICGS_Shoor.jpg is not an ISRO image (an not a Coast Guards one neither) so IMO each image must be carefully reviewed. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 18:56, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Patrick Rogel: In my understanding GODL-India applies on Govt. of India works, it is irrelevant if PIB published it or not. PIB simply borrows the works of departments under a Govt. of India ministries to publish. And File:OPV_ICGS_Shoor.jpg image was originally sourced from here and is an original work of Indian Coastguard (not ISRO) but apparently it was later replaced by a better version from a source that is not affiliated to Indian Govt. Sometimes due to website changes original source gets degraded while better versions can be found preserved elsewhere. Ohsin (talk) 19:14, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ohsin: IMO and since there's the same warning on each image ("This image, which was originally posted in the source indicated above, has not yet been reviewed by an administrator or reviewer to confirm that the above license is valid."), images must be reviewed so {{GODL-India}} is not an automatic review tag. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 19:37, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Patrick Rogel: Sure I think the un-reviewed queue is result of slow manual process of reviewing which can't be done any other way. Meanwhile these two files appear to be bystanders caught in skirmish. File:Vikram.ogg File:Pragyaan.ogg both are extracted from legit files and are not related to ISRO sourcing just like File:OPV_ICGS_Shoor.jpg Ohsin (talk) 19:57, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Following three are recreations of logos/signatures by me File:PSLV_Logo_Classic.svg, File:GSLV logo.svg, File:Signature_of_Stephen_H._Smith.svg. A deletion of all those images would be a devastating loss. We would lose the graphical documentation of thousands of WP articles about one of the world's most important space programmes.

ISRO cannot excempt itself from federal law, so I think there should be no general license problem here. I guess they have just a safety disclaimer for third-party material which may be included on their website. --PM3 (talk) 14:32, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@PM3: Your first statement is irrelevant: Commons is not a Wikipedia subsidiary and hundreds of Commons' images are deleted each day simply because Commons hosts free media, not copyrighted ones even if it "harms" Wikipedia (in which way since images are not mandatory there?). Nevertheless I think @Ohsin: 's proposal is interesting. In the meantime everyone is welcomed to verify if these images have been published by the Press Information Bureau too and in this case they are OK. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 15:33, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I deleted 2 files which are not from ISRO or any other Indian government departments. File:Hoisting of the Nozzle end segment of PSLV-C44 over the launch pedestal.jpg is claimed as "own work" and tagged as GODL. You can't have both. If it is made by ISRO, please add the source. @Yann: Here is archived page that shows links to Novasar and SSTL images that were later pulled by ISRO without my knowledge. Notification about deletion of those can be seen on my talk page (first two). And File:OPV_ICGS_Shoor.jpg was not sourced from ISRO at all but from Indian Coastguard from here as I mentioned above and if I recall correctly it was you who uploaded a higher resolution version of it from some third party source. Comment Just to further highlight the discrepancy in ISRO's outdated statement we can see centers under it (with new websites) have updated policies inline with PIB.

Comment: I think we shouldn’t have any problem assuming GODL-India to be applicable, since that is what we do for all other files. Further, we should not delete those files published in the Press Information Bureau.
