Midi files rendered with Titanic Soundfonts

edit

Each of the nominated audio files is a MIDI rendering using the Titanic 200 GMGS v1.2 soundfont. This soundfont is purported to be freely usable and various redistribution sites list it as either "public domain" or under a (noncommercial) CC license. However, in the archived manual for the soundfont, the author says "Titanic contains samples that could be subject to copyright and intellectual property rights.... I cannot encourage commercial use of them" and "This soundfont is intended for General Midi use and is free, hence you may not redistribute it or sell it in part or as a whole..." If you download the actual soundfont, the license text says essentially the same thing. He makes it pretty clear that this soundfont possibly includes non-free elements and that he intended for its use to be noncommercial. As these licensing terms are incompatible with Wikimedia Commons, all files created with the soundfont should be deleted.

If this discussion is headed in the direction of deletion, I support allowing the original uploaders/renderers some time to rerender their midi files with a freely usable soundfont so that the files may be updated before they are deleted, but I am unsure about the logistics of that since the infringing files would still be visible unless someone went in and hid the revisions.  Mysterymanblue  15:38, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Actormusicus: , please do as you write, rerender the files, so these versions can be deleted soon. Thanks, Ellywa (talk) 22:41, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ellywa: I am free tomorrow, so I will do that within 24 h. If not, please remind me. Thank you. Mine are only 3 files, however --Actormusicus (talk) 16:55, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Actormusicus: last call today. Files can be undeleted later if you have no time for this now. Ellywa (talk) 18:26, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ellywa: thank you. Just a few minutes --Actormusicus (talk) 20:02, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
