A new free data resource providing timely, high-quality insights about regional visits was launched this week by Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade)'s Tourism Research Australia. The new mobility data, which uses de-identified and aggregated data from several million mobile phones, harnesses technology to provide insights regarding domestic travellers that traditional surveys can’t. Mobility data is published by TRA monthly, typically within a fortnight of month's end. This complements TRA’s more comprehensive National #Visitor Survey, which will continue to be published each quarter. The monthly #Data is a fast and reliable source of insights on domestic visitors for the #Tourism industry. My colleague Grant Ferres outlines that we have been publishing mobility data at a national and state/territory level for several months. He says this week's inaugural release of data for all 76 tourism regions is a continuation along TRA’s path of delivering data at more granular levels of geography and on a more timely basis. We have been able to develop this data for publication thanks to additional funding from the Australian Government TRA's mobility data model draws on data from a variety of sources, including mobile phone network and GPS data, population data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and inputs from TRA’s own National Visitor Survey. All data is anonymised and aggregated, to ensure confidentiality and privacy is prioritised at every stage. The free new data resource is published in a user friendly interactive dashboard, which allows users to choose the geographic location and month of interest. The data is presented as a comparison with the same month from the previous year, to assist with understanding changes and trends in visitation. It will greatly assist Regional Tourism Organisations and Local Governments to understand movement by travellers (ie those who are travelling for day trips, overnight trips). Mobility data also forms an important and major component of a new domestic ‘big data’ product called Domestic Tourism Statistics (DoTS), which will replace the current National Visitor Survey as the source of official domestic tourism statistics from early next year. Improving data and insights is a priority of Australia’s national long-term strategy for the visitor economy, THRIVE 2030, and the new data supports Australia’s broader Data and Digital Government strategy. Getting there ... #digitalID legislation is good ✅ and now terrific to see some funding for trials of #digitalwallets and #verifiablecredentials as part of the Australian Government Digital Identity System (AGDIS). Identity is great but only half the story. We need an end-to-end and secure system. It is pointless to be able to prove who you are digitally if you still have to produce/copy/send paper documents and certificates.

By 2066, the percentage of Australians over 65 is expected to rise significantly. Our report outlines how Smart Cities technologies can make cities more accessible and livable for older Australians, enhancing quality of life through innovative solutions like Digital Twins and compliant interactive services. 💡 Efforts in advancing Smart Cities while being inclusive of older people will shape a resilient and inclusive future for all Australians. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gP7rZnK2 Food Standards Agency Standards Australia OTIF-Intergovernmental Organisation for International carriage by Rail International Journalists' Network (IJNet) ISO - International Organization for Standardization Jeanne Bank Australian Association of Gerontology #SmartCities #AgeFriendlyCities #UrbanInnovation #StandardsAustralia #InclusiveDesign #TechnologyForGood #AgeingPopulation #tech #PublicPolicy #Robotik #Digitalisierung #Lernen #Studium #Automatisierung #digital #building #construction #contractors #robots #sustainability #innovation #robotics #constructiontechnology #constructionindustry #constructionmachines #constructionnews #digitaltransformation #digitalisierung #leadership #futurism #ageing #aging #socialinnovation #innovation #socialmedia #digitalmarketing @StandardsAustralia @Australian Department of Health and Ageing @Australian Institute of Health and Welfare

Thinking a greener future is costly? The fingerprints of climate change are already all over this budget https://ab.co/4alJpOt This ABC Online article outlines the significant impact of climate change on Australia's federal budget and the government's response. Key points include: Rising Costs: Billions are spent on disaster recovery and preparedness, with costs set to increase as climate change worsens. Economic Shift: The budget prioritises moving away from fossil fuels, investing in renewable energy, critical minerals, and green hydrogen. Revenue Challenges: Reliance on fossil fuel profits is unsustainable, necessitating new revenue sources as the world aims for net-zero emissions. Policy Needs: Calls for carbon pricing and ending fossil fuel subsidies to reduce emissions effectively. Investment Oversight: Independent agencies like ARENA will manage renewable energy projects to ensure efficient use of funds. The budget's emphasis on disaster recovery and preparedness aligns closely with the goals of Landcare NSW, which focuses on natural resource management and community resilience. With increased funding in these areas, there are likely to be more opportunities for Landcare NSW to enable the community to leverage government funds for disaster preparedness initiatives. Additionally, the government's investment sustainable agriculture presents potential funding opportunities that Landcare NSW can tap into to further its mission.

"Small collections of electricity generators, or "microgrids", have long been used in disaster recovery, when network supply falters during bushfires or cyclones. But now the technology is being used to provide secure, 24-7 supplies of clean energy in Australian communities where connection to the main electricity grid is but a pipedream. Sometimes owned by local communities, renewable energy microgrids are slowly replacing dirty diesel generators. Solar energy is by far the most common source of generation for these microgrids, which usually also entail energy storage such as batteries, pumped hydro or hydrogen." #microgrids #powerdistribution #energy

💡 Sound insights need good data! 📊 I'd be super 🙏 🙏 if you would take a few moments to fill in this survey to better inform the work we're doing at the Municipal Association of Victoria. Survey link here: https://lnkd.in/gSTiwd3p Open to current VIC local government officers and elected members. Some context from our CEO Kelly Grigsby "No one understands the challenges and opportunities facing Victoria in the 21st century better than local councils. From rapidly evolving technology to social changes, shifting economies to environmental pressures, our local communities - and the governments that represent them - are at the forefront of multiple transformations happening simultaneously. These changes will affect every aspect of life in Victoria - and local councils, equipped with intimate knowledge of the needs and capabilities of their communities - are uniquely positioned to meet them head-on." MAV Strategic Plan 2024 - 2027 In order to better understand these challenges and opportunities, MAV is conducting our very first sector-wide Victorian Councils Survey. The survey is open to all local government officers, and elected members - we're excited to hear from you. This initiative is part of our emerging focus to support our local governments in their responses to critical and increasingly complex social, environmental, economic, technological and leadership challenges in our sector and communities. This work will be #datainformed, #wilfullyoptimistic, and #wildlycollaborative and will explore new ways of working at scale to support innovative approaches and responses. The data we collect through this survey will help the MAV create a baseline picture of the sector and inform an evidence base to shape our advocacy and support, training opportunities, events and programming, and investment prioritisation and decision making. We understand the pace at which everyone is working and hope that this survey gives the MAV a chance to build a big picture view, allowing us to support you with the challenges you face now and into the future. This work aligns with our newly launched Strategic Plan, across all of our key priorities and especially in our roles as #ThoughtLeader, #CapacityBuilder, and #ServiceProvider. Innovation from the Board Room One significant challenge Australian companies face is the difficulty in investing in innovation. In his book Invention to Innovation, Larry Marshall outlines the challenges traditional boards can cause. There is a fundamental disconnect between company boards and entrepreneurs. Boards often exhibit a risk-averse nature, valuing established systems and processes, whereas entrepreneurs are geared toward improvement and innovative approaches. This disparity can create conflicts, particularly when clear governance principles are not set from the early stages. Typically, boards demand comprehensive business plans with defined KPIs, metrics, and milestones to approve investments. However, startups and innovative ventures rely more on validating their concepts through lean and agile methodologies. This approach is often misunderstood by larger, more traditional companies. The conservative stance of boards can be a barrier to investing in emerging markets or technologies like hydrogen fuel, which lack extensive market data and traditional investment metrics such as net present value (NPV). To truly harness innovation, boards must shift their mindset and play a more active role in understanding the nuances of innovative ventures. This includes being open to new methodologies, acknowledging the uncertainties inherent in pioneering markets, and fostering a culture that supports continuous improvement and agility. By aligning more closely with entrepreneurial efforts, boards can drive meaningful innovation and ensure sustainable growth within their organisations. What role does your board play in promoting innovative endeavours? #healthcareinnovated #innovation
