Julia Arbit is radicalized from priest to assassin after the head of her church deploys a Ravenous, a monster of sin incarnate, to desolate her island home. When her ex-girlfriend recruits her to take revenge, they uncover a horrible escalation in the church’s war against the faithless. While she struggles to reconcile differences with her old flame, Julia must decide whether the faith she holds so dear can be redeemed, or if her Gods only ever demanded blood. Ravenous seeks to parallel cruelties facilitated by the United States’ coups during the Cold War, while exaggerating the ways in which religion can turn people into monsters.

A thrilling page turner that was difficult to put down. Aaron quite deftly captures the terror and seeming insurmountable obstacles of rebellion and resistance to empire and the status quo. The nebulous and philosophical problems of capital and the modern imperial core are made very real with literal monsters, and the internal struggles of deciding how to reckon with your part in a machine of death are treated frankly and with aplomb.
I was already a fan of Aaron's work. I cannot wait to see what he does next.
