Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Products
|
Points of interest related to Products on Wikipedia: Category – Deletions |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Products. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Products|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Products. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

[edit]- Dell laptops (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Propose redirect to List of laptop brands and manufacturers (or another target). Prose primarily consists of unsupported and, at times, subjective and vague assertions. The list seems like it has a useful navigational purpose, but is more or less redundant to Dell's section on the broader list. This proposal is not for lack of notability but because the content is not suitable for an encyclopedia, I would otherwise have suggested a merge (to a different target). Bringing this to AFD instead of BLARing because it was previously PRODed. Alpha3031 (t • c) 09:06, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

I find no independent coverage of this database. It does appear useful, but appears to be too soon to be a notable product. A BEFORE shows it's in use and blurbs about how the tool works, but it's from the tool itself.
While I would be fine with a redirect to University_of_Erfurt#University_projects, I don't think it's DUE there, and that has already been contested so merits more discussion. Star Mississippi 17:42, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

- Keep it, FactGrid was and is in a way part the official roll out of Wikibase as a common database software. The project was an official collaboration between Wikimedia and the University of Erfurt in 2018, and it is now probably the biggest Wikibase community outside Wikidata. The integration into Germany's National Research Data Infrastructure in 2023 has been the biggest move towards the institutionalization of the database. The platform is now an official recommendation for historical projects to use in Germany. It has projects in Berkeley, Barcelona, Budapest and Paris - with a 1 Million database objects and projects that participate with budgets up to € 900.000 it should no longer be a small website. --Olaf Simons (talk) 08:16, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

- Ah. I was the one who originally WP:BLARed the article, and I admit I probably should have responded to the contesting of the redirection and maybe dropped a note or something, but I've essentially treated it as a contested PROD and did not follow up due to personal reasons. I had more or less forgotten about it by the time I had more time. I do stand by my original assessment, and still believe a redirect is the most appropriate option. While there are some sources, the depth of coverage in independent reliable sources (reliable in a general context) is highly limited, and I do not believe it would be possible to write a standalone article of any length from mostly those sources. In fact, with the state of available sources, I don't believe we would be able to expand much more than maybe 2 or 3 times the current text at University_of_Erfurt#University_projects. While that would be 10% of the current article, I do not believe that would be excessive to the point of being proscribed by WP:DUE, especially if other parts are also expanded. - Claims like "the integrated design reduces gaps and corners" are unverified. Also, note the tone in the article, it's unencyclopedic. Frost 05:40, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

- Delete or maybe a redirect to Stoves. There really isn't anything here that can be used. There are academic sources but they don't really add anything of real value to the article. If you google 集成灶 you'll get stoves. Dr vulpes (Talk) 08:02, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Merge, probably with Stoves but open to other suggestions. The problem is that the words in English mean different things. It appears that there is a level of consistency in China, but I don't have the ability to read local language sources to determine overall whether it has specific meaning there. But there is certainly use in other parts of the world which mean different things - for example whilst we are told that in China is means several different kitchen appliances in one unit, in other places it might just mean that individual appliances are "built in" to the overall kitchen design. I think at this stage the best option is to merge until it is clear that there is specific meaning shown in the third party sources. JMWt (talk) 10:10, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah that was my problem as well. What I think it means, and this is a guess, is that it's a stove that also has an integrated vent. At least that's what I see when I google "集成灶" and go to images. Dr vulpes (Talk) 17:53, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

- Benares brass (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
"Benares brass" isn't a thing; it's just brass items made/sold in Varanasi. Just like there isn't a page for "Benares trinkets", there doesn't need to be one for Benares brass. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 03:25, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

- Keep Contested PROD (I opposed it).
- I would agree that 'Benares brass' isn't a thing. At least, not in the metallurgical sense, as a particular brass alloy. I may be wrong - place-specific alloys do sometimes turn up, owing to oddities of local material supply.
- But I'm not convinced that 'brass and brasswork of Benares' isn't a thing, just based on the sources already attached to the article. Is brass manufacture a significant and distinctive industry specific to Benares? Now that's certainly a thing, and there are many such locations where particular forms of metalworking are both distinct (the place is significant to the craft of brassworking) and locally economically important (brass working is significant to the place). On my own doorstep, an article on 17th to 19th century brassworking around Bristol and the Avon valley would be very welcome. Andy Dingley (talk) 09:01, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

- Merge with Varanasi: Borderline notable at best, and would be much more suitable as part of the city's article per WP:NOPAGE, similar to how Moradabad does not have a separate page for its highly recognized brass industry. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 02:54, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

- Keep I found these sources on Google Books with somewhat good coverage of it [1] [2] [3] Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 09:54, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- The first source only contains trivial coverage and the other two links are to the same source. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 22:15, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- Merge with Varanasi as suggested. There’s more context there. This page just doesn’t have significant coverage for a free-standing article. Bearian (talk) 02:20, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
