Early Years (1987-1999)

[edit]

Son of Ming Cheu and Winnie Cheu, he is the oldest child in the family and brother of two younger sister, Jennifer Cheu and Jessica Cheu. Attended elementary and some middle school in Hong Kong, he finished in the top 20% (23 out of a class of roughly 160) of the official school ranking during the year equivalent to 6th grade in the United States, which is also his last year in Hong Kong.

He was also a part of the junior soccer team at school, his position as a forward proves to be important later in his life.

1999-2000

[edit]

Many people would know that Hong Kong is a colony of the Great Britain, and in 1997 such colony is returned to the Chinese authority.

1999

[edit]

Having filed the appropriate documents to migrate to the US, it is in 1999 when the Cheu family finally moved to the United States. Having first arrived in Quincy, Massachusetts, Christopher Cheu, along with his family shares an apartment with his aunt, Elaine Chau (married to Steve Chau), and her family. Shortly after, Ming Cheu and Winnie Cheu rented an apartment in the same apartment complex and the two families became not only neighbors but also close friends.

Studied at Atlantic Middle School in Quincy from 1999-2000 as a 7th Grader, this is the year when Christopher Cheu fell in love with the Boston Red Sox. Having gone into the playoffs, the Red Sox lost to the eventual World Series Champions, the Evil Empire, the New York Yankees.

2000

[edit]

After spending a year in Quincy, where the area is populated by many Chinese, Ming and Winnie decided to move to Hingham (with the nickname Harborman for being on the shore), a great town for education. The Chau family was the first one to move into Hingham, and the Cheu's followed. And once again the two families shares the same roof as you might call it, which would start another spell of living together for 5 years, and strengthens the family relationship once again.

Going into the last year (8th grade) of his middle school life, he mixed in with the new school and new town right away. 8th grade was also the year when Christopher Cheu met a science teacher, Mr. Tinker, where not only book knowledge was taught but also life lessons that would help him along the way for his future.

2001-2005

[edit]

After finishing up with middle school, Christopher Cheu go on to Hingham High School. This is the place where Christopher Cheu is totally transformed and developed as a character.

Freshman Year

[edit]

Not knowing many people in the school. Chris ran into a couple of guys (Steve Fiske and Alex Olson) who would change his life completely. Along with P. Sky Thaxter, a Library Media Center teacher, Christopher got into TV production where he was able to make videos that got out to the whole entire High School. A memorable show that Chris and Steve made was The diary of Chris Cheu, a short film that resembles the famous show on MTV, The diary of _____. Chris also got involve with a local Soccer team that spring, playing as a forward, he scored two goals during the season. On the sports side, along with soccer, he tried out for the Hingham Lacrosse team for high school. Trying to play as a freshman, an injury occurred during the last phrase of his soccer season prevented him from playing Lacrosse after participated for the team for only one day.

Although he failed to played as a player, his involvement in the lacrosse program did not stop. With the knowledge from TV production, he became the chief photographer/videographer for the team. Going to every game and provide the head coach, John Todd, with variable database that enable them to achieve back to back State Championship title after a thriller in Winchester and a solid finish in the finals against Ipswich.

Sophmore Year

[edit]

The second year at the Hingham High School picked up where it left off. Playing soccer for the Junior Varsity Team for Hingham High, Chris gain experience as a striker under Coach Dennis. Although wasn't a regular first team player, he obtained 3 points that year through assists. When the fall season of sports was over, Chris took up a new Challenge. After having a successful year as a team videographer with the Lacrosse Team during his freshman year, his service was needed in another sport, Hingham High School Varisty Hockey.

It is an honor to work for the hockey team providing it is one of the best team in Massachusetts for the past 3 years. Alex Olson, a star player on the team, helped Chris to mix in with his teammates, to bring Chris, even though never play on ice, to be part of the team.

The hockey team make it into the Super 8 playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year. But was knocked out by the Catholic Memorial Knights, a team that had won the title 17 times since the creation of the Super 8 playoffs.

Junior Year

[edit]

This is the year where everyone would say that it is the most important for college applications. He worked hard in school and took advanced and honor classes that proves to be challenging, but yet he was able to pass all and was accepted into National Honor Society. During his 2nd year playing for the soccer team, he finally was able to score (against Scituate) after hitting post many times during the season. This was a major achieve my his standard as everyone else on team had more experience and had been playing all their lives, where as Chris only picked up the game from where he left off since he's 11.

Another event that would have an imprint for Chris's future is the Boston Bruins. Invited by Steve Fiske to the opening game of the season, Chris became a diehard fan. Going to several other game that season, and also a couple of games in the playoff against the Montreal Canadians, where the Bruins lost to the Canadians after being ahead 3 games to none in a 7 games series, it would be a while until Chris can relive the joy of Major League Hockey as the NHL Lock Out occurred for following year. In the mean time Chris spends his winter time watching and working for the Harborman Hockey team. Junior year was also the year that had a major impact in his social life. Perhaps the academic the pressure of the year was a lot for a 17 years old to handle, Chris found an alternative way to relax himself and celebrate his 17th birthday with Steve Fiske and other friends. Which will soon become a regular thing to do for weekends from that point on.

Other than the Bruins' lost in the playoff, another heart breaker occurred during the 2003 year. It was with the Red Sox. After working hard during the season, the Red Sox had a battle with the Yankees in the ALCS (American League Championship Series). It took them 7 games to decided who would move on to play in the World Series. And at least it was Aaron Boom, a Yankees player who hit a solo home run that sent the Red Sox home.

Apart from sports, Chris also traveled to Italy with many friends such as Scott Young, Eddie Gill, Katie McCann, Maddy and Beth Murphy and many others. Where they had an amazing time that will be remeber for the rest of his life.

Senior Year

[edit]

At the beginning of the year, it was a tough start. Losing a friend, Ted Cochran, to a car accident on the 5th of Sept, 2004. He will always be in our prayers. The soccer team, many players who are friends with Ted, decided to dedicate their season to Ted. Playing their best season for many years, Harborman soccer was undefeated after 23 games. Even Duxbury, a rival for Hingham, had to bow down to us after losing 4-1 during the regular season. The team was ranked first in the state, but perhaps as luck might have it. We were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round by King Phillips after an offside goal which we were not able to recover.

Again working for the Hockey and Lacrosse team, I recruited Scott Young to be my official commentator. Probably the best I have seen in years, the hockey team defeated the Catholic Memorial Knights during the regular season in a 3-2 miracle after giving up a goal early in the first period.

As for Lacrosse, this would be his 4th year working with the team. And the coaching staff, appreciate the time that Chris had put in over the past 4 years, awarded him with the Heart and Soul Award. Which as the title says, is for someone who gives their heart and soul for the good of the program.

A side note - Red Sox is the World Champion after beating the Yankees in 7 games and cruise to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals in 4 games.

He is also part of the WPI Club Soccer and will be a captian for the team in 2006; WPI Roller Hockey Club and WPI Motorsports Club. Along with his closest friend at School, Greg Funk, they run and workout together in the morning to stay in shape, and hang out during their first year at School.

Even with all the Clubs and things that Chris do, Chris became a Franchise Manager for College Pro Painters. Running his own painting business for Scituate, Cohasset, and Hull in Massachusetts, he is aiming to do a 125,000 dollars business, which will not only give him a wonderful income for the summer, but also valuable experience that one cannot learn from books.

Sophomore year is also a very important year for Chris in the sporting area as he got his first ever point for the WPI Roller Hockey team. In the next game, he proceed to score the first of his 2 goals in the 2006-2007 season. Later on in the season however, he withdrew from the squd due to scheduling conflict between practice times, matches, and work as he signed a $150,000 Presidents Club contract with College Pro Painters to return as a Senior Franchise Manager.

After the first semester, Greg Funk decided that WPI is not the ideal institution for him. Thus he was transferred to Central Connecticut State University to continue with his education. While the distance between Chris and Greg had increased, the friendship was not hampered with the help of both technology and Chris' reliable set of wheels - Raw Dog.

On November 17th of 2006, Chris attended the "Black Light Party" hosted by Sigma Pi. That is when Chris first met Christa Vail. On the December 9th, they went on their first date ice skating and watching the Bruins against the Devils in Boston. Their relationship ended two months later as Chris begins to prepare for work for summer of 2007.

Work for 2007 started out below par. With all the progress falling behind schedule, Chris took an important decision to renegotiate his contract with College Pro Painters to set a more realistic goal. As the year rolls out, things started to fall into places and Chris' experience from the first year prove to be tremendous. Being able to cut down both labor and material cost, Chris ended the year at a respectable $95,000 in revenue and about 30% of it was profit. When his second year of managing was complete, Chris prepare to leave the United States for 2 months as he get ready to fly to Morocco to study aboard in order to have a better knowledge and understanding of the Islamic culture.
