The Path to the Ruins (遺跡への道, Path to the Ruins) is the twelfth stage of the Subspace Emissary in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Overview[edit]
The Path to the Ruins involves two characters; the Pokémon Trainer (who only has Squirtle) and Lucas. They are first seen on the edge of a cliff, as they see Charizard fly over their heads, toward The Ruins. The Pokémon Trainer checks the two pictures he had of Charizard and Ivysaur, and points at Charizard. Once going through the stage, they encounter Wario. Lucas, recalling Wario taking Ness at The Ruined Zoo, decides to fight him, alongside Pokémon Trainer. They defeat him, and high-five. Noticing Wario no longer has Ness in his possession, Lucas starts to feel sad, but before long the two enter The Ruins.
After the level, a cutscene plays with King Dedede in his castle. He proudly looks at his collection of trophies consisting of Luigi, Ness, and Zelda/Peach. He places Dedede brooches on Luigi and Ness but runs out. He then puts the one he intended for himself on the princess. Dedede then intends to make more brooches later. At that moment however, Bowser and his army break into the castle through the ceiling. A block of debris hits Dedede in the head, knocking him out and eventually turning him into a trophy. He, along with Ness and Luigi are buried under the pile of rubble. As such, Bowser only finds the princess to take.
