Héctor's power is channeled by the Book of Prophecies to create the Miguel & Héctor Medal.

Design[edit]

Héctor is a lanky skeleton with yellow and rusted bones held together by things such as tape and bandages on his right arm and left leg, sans the bright gold markings on his skull. He has messy black hair and brown eyes, with a couple teeth missing and a single gold tooth in his frontal teeth. On his head, he wears a straw hat. He also wears a torn-up indigo formal jacket with a red tie and red, black and white suspenders, and torn-up light brown and black pinstriped pants to show his skeletal knees and feet.

Origin[edit]

Héctor Rivera originated from the Disney/Pixar film Coco, voiced by Gael García Bernal. In life, he was a talented musician who was friends with Ernesto de la Cruz, husband to Mamá Imelda, and father to Coco. Héctor toured the world with Ernesto to spread his songs around the world, but eventually became homesick and decided to return home. Before he could leave, he died, believing himself to have choked on a chorizo, but was actually poisoned and killed by Ernesto, who afterwards stole the credit for his songs.

Nearly a century later, during the events of the film, Héctor encounters his descendant Miguel in the Land of the Dead, who believes himself to be descended from Ernesto. He helps Miguel in searching for Ernesto, helping him acquire a guitar to gain access to Ernesto's party. However, Miguel sets off to find Ernesto alone when Héctor finds that Miguel's other family members are searching for him. Héctor soon catches up with Miguel at Ernesto's, learning the truth about his death, and attacks Ernesto in fury, leading to Héctor and Miguel to be banished. Héctor begins to fade, realizing that Coco is slowly forgetting him, and reconciles with Miguel and the Riveras. Together, the Riveras defeat Ernesto, and Héctor gives his blessing to Miguel. In the land of the living, Miguel helps Coco remember Héctor by singing his song "Remember Me", and restores Héctor's place in the Riveras' family ofrenda and memory.
