“Chase death, Moonbeam. And I pray your bloodlust brings you the same sense of peace I feel just knowing you exist.”
What a book. I want to start off “Chase death, Moonbeam. And I pray your bloodlust brings you the same sense of peace I feel just knowing you exist.”
What a book. I want to start off by applauding the author for how thought out and detail-oriented this book was. This was not a surface level fantasy book. There is some advanced world building that made me feel like I should be taking notes. I loved that the author included a glossary at the beginning detailing characters, types of creatures, locations, and the meanings of substituted words. Additionally, the use of different languages was so ingenious. Not only did the author create different languages depending on the regions and clans, but she also created these beautiful elemental songs that are apart of their magic system.
I will admit that the book was quite slow, especially in the beginning, but I think that was actually a good thing for the plot overall. Rather than be thrown into a whirlwind of information, action scenes, plot twists, the author took the time to relay the motivations and feelings of the characters. I feel like this gave me time to process the information because it was being fed to me in such a detailed way that I didn’t feel utterly confused by the end of it.
The banter wasn’t anything new but it was still very good. I think the main focus was more the love story itself. For a fantasy novel with spice, this love story was very endearing, heartbreakingly so. I felt like the author did a great job at emphasizing the emotional connection of the characters rather than just how physically attracted they were to one another. I also think this was very evident in how obviously well thought out the conversations between characters were. We are also briefly introduced to the emotions and motivations surrounding side characters which I thought was great because they tie into the plot that much better.
The world building was astounding. I literally felt like I was watching a movie in my head over the span of 5 days. I didn’t have to come up with my own assumptions of what things looked like because the author did such a great job of detailing things. The different kingdoms with their climates, people, dragons, so well thought out!! I will now be obsessing over Moonplume Dragons and crying because I can’t have one.
The ending was very good. It did not overwhelm me or give me anxiety about waiting to see what happens next. While it leaves you with questions, it didn’t stress me out extremely like most cliffhangers do. The way it was written, I definitely think there is hope and that there is so much more to come in the next book. Like I said in my initial review, this book was everything and more. It was so wonderful and I will be eagerly waiting to read the rest of the series.
Initial Review: WHAT DID I JUST READ?!?! My mind is mush. I’m astonished. My goodness, this book was amazing. Might I say my top read of 2024 with only 3 weeks into the year?? 730 pages of perfection. I need to gather my thoughts before writing a thorough review but omg this book was everything and more....more
