if someone asked me to describe Funny Feelings in one word, i would simply say “uninteresting.”
i decided to give this book a try because i was craving something fun, cute and light-hearted — but eh... it’s not quite that. cute and light-hearted? sure, i guess we can say that. sort of. but fun? not at all.
i have to confess that i tend to avoid romcoms because most of them are too corny and unfunny for my taste, although sometimes [rarely] i’m lucky to find a romcom that it’s none of these things. but unfortunately, i was pretty unlucky this time because this was, in fact, corny and unfunny (very ironic if you ask me given the name of the book and also the fact that it focuses a lot on comedy). disappointed? yes. surprised? no.
see, this book is not terrible by any means. there are a few nice things about it and the first couple chapters were enjoyable to an extent, but after i hit the 40% mark it became super tedious. literally nothing interesting was happening and the plot... i’m sorry, is there even an actual plot here? i certainly don’t think so. it was non-existent to me. that’s the reason why this review will be short, actually. there’s not much to talk about.
the main characters aren’t bad. there’s nothing particularly wrong with them, which is a good thing i guess. the problem is that i just couldn’t personally connect with them and, you know, love them. i was just indifferent most of the time and honestly didn’t care much. they weren’t anything special. just unremarkable.
i thought that, at least, their romance would be nice to read about because friends to lovers + fake dating seems to go well together, but it was very poorly executed here. there was no spark whatsoever. i expected lots of tension and so much chemistry between the two, but erm... that’s not what i got. the romance, among with other things, bored me to death.
needless to say, Funny Feelings was not what i was expecting. i guess it was just not the book for me; i expected something way different and that’s entirely my fault. i do feel like other people might appreciate more than i did, though — especially those who are romcom lovers, so don’t be afraid to pick it up if you are a fan of the genre.

I dont think this was a bad book and I actually feel kind of bad giving it such a low rating because I feel like a lot of people would swoon hard and absolutely love it… but unfortunately i was extremely bored the entire time I read it and couldn’t wait for it to be over.
Don’t get me wrong - it was super cute and sweet… but I didn’t realize going into this book that it would be a duel timeline (which I’m never a fan of ) with multiple missed chances and years of both of them secretly pining after each other… only to be followed up by fake dating which finally gives them the opportunity to act how they both always wanted to.
I think I was expecting more of an unrequited love situation with a fake dating sort of thing that would have resulted in a bunch of laugh out loud funny moments because she’s a comedian… but I didn’t find the book funny at all and the overall vibes were nothing like I was expecting it to be.
It totally could be my current mood because I’ve been having a really shitty reading month and I’m in somewhat of a slump… or it could have been the book. Maybe it just wasn’t my type of humor? Idk - but either way I found myself super bored and putting it down so many times I felt like just DNFing it even though I didn’t have a particular reason to because there wasn’t actually anything specific that was bothering me. I just wasn’t into it.

Sparks fly as they navigate their own feelings among the spin they are creating for the gossip columns.
Thoughts: As soon as I saw the gorgeous cover and read the summary, I knew I was going to love this book. And thankfully, it did not disappoint. Featuring all of my favorite tropes, including age gap romance, this book had me hooked from page one. In fact, I left me with a bit of a book hangover, which is rare for me these days.
The character development was topnotch and I immediately felt connected to not only Farley and Meyer, but also the incredibly charming supporting characters like Meyer’s hearing impaired daughter Hazel. Her friendship with Farley almost steals the show. I really enjoyed the way Dewitt develops their relationship independent of Farley and Meyer’s.
I highly recommend checking this one out. It’s now available on Kindle Unlimited so definitely treat yourself to the fun Farley and Meyer bring with them. It’s my birthday month so I treated myself to the physical copy in large part for the stunning cover designed by @inkandlaurel.

So, I've had this book on my TBR for a while, and honestly I don't even know if I ever knew what it was about or if it was the cover that drew me in. Needless to say, I went in blind and ehh
I think the best way to describe this is - it felt like the author was just checking off boxes to fill up this novel... like

I didn't feel anything for the characters, they felt very one dimensional. And the plot was really non existent. It was a whole lotta cute fluff so if that is something you enjoy you may appreciate it more than I did. Definitely not my usual cuppa tea but I rolled with it to the end.
Towards 50-60% it started reading like a summary, like all of the important stuff that this slow burn has been building towards was just glossed over.

"I don't know what I believe in as far as a higher power, Fee, but I know that I now believe that rainstorms always precede something amazing, because you came into our lives on the tail end of one.
What a delightful read. This had a lightness to it that I enjoyed but covered some heavier feelings with the FMC's anxiety that she deals with and what that looks like for her internally. Very relatable in a lot of ways.
MMC was great and such a cinnamon roll, though I wasn't stoked with the ending. He talked about not letting anything happen that they didn't handle together, meanwhile he's making a big decision that will affect both of them and never told her. Would have liked to see more groveling from him, but this was a good read regardless.
Also really enjoyed seeing the ASL representation. I keep telling myself I'm going to learn ASL at some point. One day! 🤞

“Meyer: I get it now. Why people say they’re so happy they can’t stand it, or something’s so great it’s disgusting. I feel like I might need to be tranquilized.”I'm going to start my review by saying that I'm the type of reader that likes to underline and annotate her physical books but only with black pen (0.5 btw, that's the superior one), but this book makes me want to be like all the girls that annotate with pastel-colored pens, highlighers, and doodle all around the page. The day I get a physical copy of this book it's going to end up like those pics you find on Pinterest when you look for "aesthetic annotated books". That's how giddy these characters make me feel.
“He leaves the room and I watch him through the peephole, waiting until he’s cleared the corner and out of sight before I turn around and slide down the door, melting in a puddle of bliss.”You don't know the joy of true romance until you've read a friends to lovers story and that's exactly what Farley and Meyer are here for. Like, her being the most precious girl ever, him being so obsessed with her, her beautiful connection with his daughter and the cutest family the three of them make together, the dual timelines of when they first met and now, knowing they've both been down bad for each other for years, how easy it is for them to get all touchy while faking their relationship, how they reassure and support each other, the tattoo (!!), the bonus chapter that had me almost sobbing, having both of their POVs and knowing the beautiful thoughts they have about the other one, how warm and soft and cozy their love feels... you don't get it (I think that after this review you do), I'm obsessed. Now, was the main conflict handled in a silly way... yes, yes it was. Do I really care? no, I loved them and the rest of the book too much to care about that.
“How did we get so lucky with you? Who do I thank for you coming into her life?”This is so embarrassing but I cried while picking the quotes I put here (mind you, out of the 132 highlights I have of this book) because of how much I adore Farley and Meyer 😭, so do with that what you will. Though, I do have to mention that I've seen a lot of you not having the best time with Tarah Dewitt's other books (and I can't say anything about that because this the only one by her that I've read), but if you haven't read this one, I'm telling you, it's so worth the try .

I'm super critical of contemporary romances, so when I say I LOVE this book, you better believe I mean it! I started reading at 7 pm on a Saturday night and finished at midnight. But instead of going to bed like a normal person, my brain was so full of serotonin that I couldn't help but stayed awake and replay the story in my head for hours!
So what did I love about this book?
I absolutely adore the main characters, Farley and Meyer. While they are fictional characters, I found them to be incredibly relatable, realistic, and authentic. Honestly, I wish these two existed in the world.
Farley is a 25-year-old, up-and-coming comedian who is finally about to catch her big break. She's fun, loud, endearing, and absolutely hilarious, and at no point did I find her to be obnoxious or annoying. Truly, the perfect comedic heroine. There's also a lot going on underneath her sunny exterior. Throughout the story, you learn she struggles with self-doubt, self-acceptance, and anxiety, but she regularly sees a therapist. I just found her to be so relatable.
Meyer is a 35-year-old, ex comedian who manages Farley and writes for TV shows. He also has a sweet pre-teen daughter, Charlie, who is incredibly mature for her age, deaf, loves to dance, and enjoys attending Farley's comedy shows. Charlie's mother died when she was born, which lead to Meyer quitting stand-up comedy to be a more dedicated, hands-on father. Over the years, he prioritized his daughter and their life together, but in the process, he became isolated until he met Farley. Meyer truly is a grumpy cinnamon roll who puts the ladies (Charlie and Farley) of his life first. So I was so proud of him when he realizes what he wants career and relationship-wise and decides to go for it.
Both Farley and Meyer rely on each other so much for love, comfort, and support, and their friendship is truly something beautiful. But I also appreciated that they also have moments of growth on their own.
The banter between Farley and Charlie brought me pure joy. As comedians, these two are both sharp and witty, but because they are best friends, their banter was more playful than snarky. And I loved it! Even though they poke fun at each other, they never do anything that actually hurts one another. I love their humor and laughed out loud so many times! I COULD NOT get enough of them!
This is so much more than a silly rom-com. Yes, there are plenty of rom-com elements like the grumpy/sunshine trope and fake dating romance, but there's so much depth to this story. Specifically when it comes to dealing with Farley's mental health and Meyer discovering himself.
The romance is beautiful with so much tension! I'm not a huge fan of friends to lovers, but this one really was perfect. I love that they were only friends for a few years and decided (on their own) to keep things professional. Because during that time, these two were able to develop a deep love and respect for one another.

But of course, that doesn't mean they weren't pining for each other. There was so much sexual tension I swear, you could cut it with a knife! And it was apparent with every look, smile, and laugh. They've had so many years to connect emotionally so when they finally connect physically, sparks fly!
Speaking of spice, there are only a few sex scenes. They aren't explicit, but they aren't closed doors. So if you're looking for a super smutty romance, this isn't it. However, what we get is satisfying. And MY GOD. . . Meyer. . . what a man. He may be the silent, stoic type in public, but in the bedroom, he is very vocal and generous. I swear I felt butterflies when he says, “I know what you need, angel. I’ll take care of you.” And then he calls her 'mine' and at one point freaking crawls to her??? I f*cking loved it all!
Overall, this was an amazing book that I think everyone should read if they want a rom-com with a bit of spice! It had absolutely everything I could ever want in a romance: well-developed characters, a fresh story, wonderful tension, great side characters, and a sweet yet sexy romance. There's a lot of depth to this story, and the characters experience a variety of emotions (and you will too). I loved every second of reading about Farley and Meyer, and I never wanted it to end. 💕 Do yourself a favor and read Funny Feelings. Plus, it's free on Kindle Unlimited!

This was just so perfect and had all of the tropes I love. Fake dating, single dad, age gap, grump/sunshine, workplace, friends to lovers, and pining!? Seriously, I'm obsessed. Farley and Meyer have been friends for a few years ever since Farley ran into Meyer at his daughter's birthday party. Meyer ended up becoming Farley's manager and they've been friends ever since. Farley has the chance to go on tour with two other amazing female comedians, but they want to drum up interest and excitement in the tour, and what's more exciting than their dating lives? They propose Farley and Meyer fake date, so they agree.
I really loved the flashbacks and how they were so strategically placed throughout the story. Farley and Meyer both have been dancing around feelings for each other, and we get to see scenes where things were so close to being something but never really crossed that line. And I loved how Meyer was kind of pining the whole time for Farley and his character was just THE BEST. And Farley's character was so refreshing and fun. Her job as a comedian was so unique and I loved her relationship with Meyer's daughter. She was deaf and Farley already knew ASL, and I loved watching them interact. This is definitely a new favorite book of the year and I couldn't recommend it enough!!

To start, the dedication and author’s note were powerful. I was so touched by the author’s words. Multiple friends have mentioned that I needed to try one of her books so that was one of my goals for 2024 and I’m so glad I did, I can’t wait to read more. Some tropes in this book though are age gap (10 years I think), friends to lovers, single dad, fake relationship, and mutual pining.
Funny Feeling was (unsurprisingly) funny, along with being uplifting, emotional, sometimes sharp, and intimate. Farley (h) is a standup comedian who’s starting to get more recognition and Meyer (H) is her best friend and manager. The story moves between present day and scenes of their past as it highlights their relationship. The initial meeting between them was tumultuous and lovely in the best way. I wasn’t in love with the flow of the present and past chapters though, despite the value and insight I thought they brought. It just threw me off sometimes.
The strength of this story imo was the characters and their experience, how their scenes were imbued with the magic of their personalities, care for each other, and the deep respect and love their relationship was built on (from a friend perspective as well as more). This book doesn’t shy away from the messier aspects of the main characters’ inner thoughts and emotional turmoil, but it also balances those out with loads of laughs, stirring feels, and a touch of steam.
Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama (though one past scene does have an ex of the h’s in it but no on page steam with him) and neither were virgins (H had been celibate for several years and h was celibate for I think about a year - so he wasn’t with anyone after meeting her but she had been after meeting him). The H is a single dad but his child was the result of a ONS and the mother died in childbirth.
I appreciated that Farley and Meyer were equally dependent on each other and that, with Meyer’s daughter Hazel, there was a special family feel to their connection. Also loved the inclusion and representation with Hazel being deaf. Every scene with Meyer’s daughter was adorable and her relationships with both her father and Farley were touching. Farley and Meyer do have many scenes without Hazel too.
The banter was excellent and the mutual pining ratcheted up the tension of when their feelings would come to light. There’s openness and excellent communication except when it came to their romantic feelings and a bit of how it affected their work. That pining was well written while also making me want to hold their faces together and force them to cross those lines, and I thought they could have been honest with each other earlier. As their fake relationship prompted them to talk more about their real feelings, I was almost squealing. Once the steam came about too, I was on cloud nine. It’s not the spiciest steam, though it is satisfying.
The middle did drag for me unfortunately and the flow of the writing sometimes felt off. However I loved the positive therapy discussions and mentions of supporting mental health. Some of the humorous moments were zany and others more tongue-in-cheek. Farley’s sense of humor is raunchy at times so there are some jokes that mention bodily functions, for example. The romance is gooey without being too syrupy. Side characters supported the main ones and moved along the plot of Farley getting the next step in her career. Absolutely adored the strong female friendship vibes.
I wish the climax and mini-conflict wasn’t quite what happened but there’s no third act breakup at least. There’s still a grand gesture that was swoony. The epilogues (yep two) had a tender, perfect HEA tone to them. One is an article format of a journalist interviewing Farley some years later and it provides details of where they are. Then the other happens before that one chronologically and is their wedding day. It was just the best note to end the book on.

These are all tropes that I love so it seemed like this would be a slam dunk, but it didn’t really stand out to me. I think my biggest issue was that Farley was a comedian and I didn’t find any of her material remotely funny. So much of comedy is in the delivery but even if I had “been there” in person, I doubt she would have gotten many laughs from me. 🤷🏼♀️
They also were just a little too obviously perfect for each other for it to make sense for them to not already be dating. Her speaking ASL and just happening upon his deaf daughter’s birthday party was all just a bit too convenient to be believable. Sure, he’s ten years older, but who cares? Him being her manager was a pretty flimsy reason for them not to date as well. If he really thought that would be an issue, why was he so quick to say yes when the idea of them fake dating for publicity was presented?
Despite these issues, I will say that this seemed like a very healthy relationship. So many books portray insta love and relationships that are purely based on the physical. The best thing about the friends to lovers trope is that you know that when the characters say “I love you” they actually know each other well enough to mean it. I feel confident that this couple would make it past the epilogue.
I wasn’t crazy about Farley, but I loved Meyer and you will too! He is a near perfect book boyfriend. I’d love to meet him in real life but I’m sure the real life version would also be into 25 year olds. 🫠🙃

Can we talk about this adorable cover art?! I’m loving this trend where we can’t see their faces. Reminds me of the Lovelight Farms cover art, same artist?? 🤔
These are all tropes that I love so it seemed like this would be a slam dunk, but it didn’t really stand out to me. I think my biggest issue was that Farley was a comedian and I didn’t find any of her material remotely funny. So much of comedy is in the delivery but even if I had “been there” in person, I doubt she would have gotten many laughs from me. 🤷🏼♀️
They also were just a little too obviously perfect for each other for it to make sense for them to not already be dating. Her speaking ASL and just happening upon his deaf daughter’s birthday party was all just a bit too convenient to be believable. Sure, he’s ten years older, but who cares? Him being her manager was a pretty flimsy reason for them not to date as well. If he really thought that would be an issue, why was he so quick to say yes when the idea of them fake dating for publicity was presented?
Despite these issues, I will say that this seemed like a very healthy relationship. So many books portray insta love and relationships that are purely based on the physical. The best thing about the friends to lovers trope is that you know that when the characters say “I love you” they actually know each other well enough to mean it. I feel confident that this couple would make it past the epilogue.
I wasn’t crazy about Farley, but I loved Meyer and you will too! He is a near perfect book boyfriend. I’d love to meet him in real life but I’m sure the real life version would also be into 25 year olds. 🫠🙃

This was great. My first Tarah Dewitt book was such a win. Meyer and Farley's story was such a sweet and funny friends to lovers romance. And Hazel, she was one of the best parts about the book. I wish we would have had a little more time with the couple as a couple toward the end, but still so fantastic!

I absolutely ADORED this book. Perfection from start to finish. I truly felt like I was the one experiencing all the fun things about the start of a new relationship, the small touches, the flirty smiles, the butterflies. I felt it all. All those little moments were written so perfectly I swear I was blushing as if it were happening to me.
This book was not only hilarious and witty and fun, but the emotional maturity of the characters was just so refreshing. It was so wonderful to read a love story about people who get awkward and giddy and start overthinking things but then communicate their feelings. I kept thinking there would be some big blow up or miscommunication, but there really wasn’t.
I loved Meyer SO much. An emotionally intelligent man that regularly attends therapy and encourages others to do so as well? PLEASE. He’s also the best most dedicated father and it’s so endearing. At first I was a little worried I might not enjoy this book solely bc it’s about a female comedian who loves potty humor, which I reeeeaally just don’t like lol, but honestly it was pretty easy to still stay super invested in their story even if some of her jokes weren’t my typical brand of humor!

Oh, yeah Tarah Dewitt just wrote one of my favorite books. IT IS ONE OF MY FAVES NOW.

cute, but ive got no funny feelings for this one. ive never read a romance with both MCs being stand up comedians, so that part was interesting. i adored the mutual pining. it was hilarious reading the two of them pine for each other while thinking that their feeling was unrequited lol. like, jokes on you, pal! however, the romance felt all over the place mostly because the alternating past/present chapters was distracting for me, and i simply couldnt keep the timeline straight in my head. not to mention, the two of them were always friends; and, even though they became lovers, that dynamic only shifted/didnt notably change. so there wasnt a clear distinction (or i just didnt notice it) between their past & present.
also, ever since Cade Eaton (Heartless), i keep comparing older, single dad heroes to him. the H of this book didnt even come close. i mean, hes a sweetheart. consent is sexy and all. but sometimes i wish he’d been bolder, more forward, and spontaneous with his love language (physical touch/affection) without overthinking the h’s reaction or how it was going to be received. on another note, what happened with the “fake dating for PR stunt” plot?? i feel like it was just a plot device and not an actual plotline? i thought the third act conflict would have smth to do with it—it didnt. i understood the h’s anger, but i also feel like she overreacted. im glad they didnt blow it out of proportion and was able to sort it out like the mature, adult they were.

What. The. Hell. This was hella good! 🥹 This romance literally made me feel single to my bones and I’m still so happy somehow? I loved everything about this book. Age gap (but make it so perfect to the point that MMC is a man, not a 35 year old boy who can’t even deal with his own shit. You can just feel it, he is mature, well mannered, very protective over her I mean overall just a great guy) friends to lovers, fake dating, single parent… this book has everything in it and again you just picture this beautiful rom-com cause you can’t help it, setting is too damn good! Also I’m in love with MMC but that’s not newsflash. He is just my type of guy; he is a reader, a neat freak, very clean, he is not afraid of showing his emotions. Pretty much by beloved ex except his age (and his kid). I mean amen to him 🧎♀️ definitely going to keep reading Tarah DeWitt cause she is so damn good! 🧡

I am an unashamed magpie and have totally been known to pick a book up based off its cover & I have zero regrets on this occasion 😎
Alongside the eye-catching cover, my dear @PbB put this on my radar and she never leads me astray - so this will be joining its frendos on my FFS shelf 🤭
Don’t let the fact the title contains the word “Funny” lull you into a sense of frivolity. Please don’t get me wrong it is very entertaining (the swimsuit legit made me cackle 🤣), the jokes are present but more background and not overtly in your face. This story delves a little deeper and plays with societal perception of the funny/loud girl + how people react to & treat them as well as how different it can be for men/women on the comedy circuit.
The dedication at the start addresses this in such a wonderful way that I encourage you not to skip over it as I will never be able to do it justice but love how it resonated.
FF follows Farley (Fee) an up and coming comedienne, to take the next step in her career a suggestion is made that she might “fake date” her manager Meyer who had his own comedic success at an earlier age but leans more into writing now as he balances working with being a single dad to his deaf daughter Hazel (totes book MVP btw she is legit the best!) & wouldn’t you know it but the MCs have lowkey been pining/in love with each other for a while but are each scared of tipping the precarious relationships they have carved out after years of working together following a chance encounter and honestly wonderful meet cute.
Seriously tho how that meet cute comes full circle and the way TD brings it all together under the same ☂️ (ella ella – sorry my brain…I just 🙈 sometimes) is such lovely storytelling.
Reading this hot on the heels of two BK Borison books might have been a slight mistake as this was a very different feel. Have you ever had a book just.. surprise you? This one surprised me. I don't know if it's February, and love is in the air, or if I just got lucky and somehow picked up some of the best romances ever written this month. It's gotta be something, because I've never been a huge fan of the romance genre, but you wouldn't believe me at all after looking at what I've read this month.
It could also just be Chris Evans.
I was told by a friend that the main character of this book felt a lot like him, that he was who the author would fan-cast for Meyer. I didn't see it... until I did, and now it's all I can think about. Meyer is the best Dad, the best friend, always putting himself on the line for the people he loves. He's protective, and smart, understanding, grounding, and best of all, kind.
He was lonely in life until he met Farley, and he had no idea that she was lonely waiting for a love like him.
She didn't have a happy life, a happy place, a world that made her feel whole and real. Not until she met Meyer, not until she made Hazel feel all the things she'd wanted to all her life. She lost her mother so young, and she became one for Hazel in all the best ways.
They were a family before Meyer or Farley could admit they wanted to be, and they fit so seamlessly into each other's lives that it could only have been fate that brought them together. I loved the inevitability of this story. The way it was about a public image, but became so much more about honesty and truth that's been hidden for years.
I like that "rainstorms always precede something amazing" and that "jumping in puddles is better than any fancy party." I think that love is so cool thousands of people write about it every day. Millions, even. And I love that this book got published, and that I got to read it, and that it can always bring me comfort when I need it most.
