About ACM's Public Policy Work
Global Policy, Government, and Public Affairs
ACM has a dynamic, diverse, and global reach. Part of its mission is to inform the computing community and the general public about the impact of computing advances, computing education, and the application of technology in today's connected world.
ACM provides independent, nonpartisan, and technology-neutral research and resources to policy leaders, stakeholders, and the public. To do this, ACM draws on the deep technical expertise and experience of the global computing community. The members of our policy committees leverage this broad base to identify scientific research and best practices that are relevant to public policy issues. Through issue briefs, white papers, and reports, ACM delivers science-based analysis that helps advance policy leaders' understanding of complex technological issues.
ACM's Public Policy Entities
ACM's network of policy entities works to advance policy leaders' understanding of topical computing-related issues. For policy issues requiring in-depth expert analysis, these entities work with specialists within ACM's Special Interest Groups and substantive committees. The ACM Technology Policy Council (TPC) oversees ACM's policy work globally and coordinates ACM's efforts across national, regional, and international policy arenas. In the United States, the ACM US Technology Policy Committee (USTPC) serves as the focal point for interactions with US policy leaders. Similarly, the ACM Europe Technology Policy Committee (Europe TPC) interacts with policy leaders in Europe.
