Pigrons have a special ability to become transparent and nearly invisible, allowing them to fly through solid blocks. As a transparent Pigron starts to attack, it will become visible again. When it starts moving towards the player, it occasionally makes an audible growl. If it is in its solid, visible state and is blocked by solid blocks on its path to the player, it will become transparent again to pass through them.
The type of ice is irrelevant when the game is deciding what type of Pigron to spawn (i.e. a hallow Pigron can spawn on Purple Ice Blocks as long as the player is considered in the Hallow).
When the Pigron growls, it sounds like an oddly distorted boss noise when summoned or attacking.
In rare cases, Underground Cabins will have a functional trap consisting of a pressure plate and a Pigron Statue. This allows them to be spawned pre-Hardmode, however, they will not have any drops. The variant is randomized when they are spawned this way.
Tips[]
Utilizing the Hunter Potion makes finding and dispatching a Pigron much easier, as it glows when it would normally be nearly invisible.
Pay attention for growls while in Ice biome, since Pigrons will usually be heard sooner than they are seen, and the sound they make is unique.
The Pigron Statue can be used to easily unlock all three variants in the Bestiary, saving the player the trouble of having to create all of the respective biomes.
Trivia[]
The name is a portmanteau of the words "Pig" and "Dragon". This was confirmed by Cenx in the IRC.
Despite Pigrons coming in three different colors and slight variations, the banner (along with the Scaly Truffle's Pigron Mount) is always pink.
There is a discontinued plush Pigron sold in real life by Toynk Toys, based on its purple appearance in the Underground Corruption.[1]
The Bestiary entry for the Pigrons: "This elusive dragon-pig hybrid has excellent stealth capabilities despite its rotund figure. It is uncertain how they came to exist."
