Denis Mukengere Mukwege (/mʊkˈweɪɡi/;[1] born 1 March 1955) is a Congolese gynecologist. He founded and works in Panzi Hospital in Bukavu. He works in the treatment of women who have been gang-raped by rebel forces.[2] He has treated thousands of women who were victims of gang wartime rape since the Second Congo War.[3]
In 2018, he and Nadia Murad were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict."[4]
