“Darling. Darling. Darling...darling...darling...darling...”
—Monica's reanimated corpse at the end of Chapter 16.

Monica is a character mentioned in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. She is Orson's reanimated wife who died sometime before the beginning of the game. According to Orson, her birthday was on the same day Chapter 16 took place.

After Eirika and Ephraim retake Castle Renais, they and Seth encounter Monica in Orson's quarters. Affected by the same magic used to control Emperor Vigarde, her corpse is capable only of saying "darling" over and over. Seth offers to destroy her body, but Ephraim destroys it instead.

Etymology[]

Monica is a name of uncertain origin, probably originates from the Greek Monikos, derived from the word monos, meaning "one", and "lonely", "widow". Other sources associate the name with the Latin word 'moneros' (adviser).

Saint Monica was the mother of Augustine, one of the earliest and most prominent church doctors.
