Etymology[]

Melusine is a Nixie from European folklore whose depiction is similar to a mermaid or a lamia, but also has wings and two tails. She is associated with the ruling houses of Anjou, Lusignan, and Plantagenet and supposedly warns the nobles of each house of impending death or change.

The most famous story is her marriage to the nobleman Raymondin where she promises to make him rich and famous on the condition that she bathes in secret every Saturday due to her transformation into a serpent on that day. However, after bearing ten children, Raymondin is persuaded by his family to spy on her one Saturday in her bath. She eventually leaves him but returns every so often to care for her children.

Her name originates from the Latin word melus, meaning 'melodious or pleasant' and is said to be the inspiration for 'The Little Mermaid' by Hans Christian Anderson.

Trivia[]

  • The Melusine class animations don't show the characters wielding tomes.
