Maltese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Sicilian muntuni, from Latin moltō, from Gaulish *multon-, from Proto-Celtic *moltos (“wether”). The plural mtaten instead of expected *mnaten seems to imply that the singular was formerly (also) pronounced *muttun.
