Surprisingly, the Articles section does not seem to include articles on early colonial passenger ships e.g. Parmelia (barque). This should be in scope, shouldn't it? Also convict ships e.g. those in Category:Convict ships to Western Australia and Category:Ships of the First Fleet? Hesperian 00:23, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please put it all in - we are still at work in progress in relation to the main project page - please help create a good template for the start of things ! SatuSuro 05:23, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

article assessment

[edit]

Having an independant review of the article from within the project is beneficial to editors prior to FA and GA. I was thinking instead of a seperate system why not link into the parent project Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/Assessment. What does everybody else think? (Gnangarra forgot to sign) Gnangarra

Ports

[edit]

I've done my bit for this project today by turning List of Australian ports into one of my Gazetteer-based lists. The main advantage for us is that the entries now link to the location of an article on the port itself rather than the port's location. For example, the previous list contained an entry that linked to Fremantle, Western Australia; now the corresponding entry redlinks to Fremantle Harbour.

I still need to disambiguate some of the entries. One question we need to consider is: should there be separate articles for port and town when the town is named after the port e.g. Coffs Harbour, Port Augusta?

Hesperian 13:53, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think there would need to be single articles - unless the town article is already large with no port related info - or the port had long history and lots of data about it SatuSuro 14:16, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to see a separate article for each of the dozen major ports: Port of Fremantle, Port of Melbourne, Port of Brisbane, Port of Newcastle. See Category:Ports and harbours of Australia for existing articles. —Moondyne 15:24, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image needed

[edit]

I've added the project to {{WP Australia}} option of |maritime=yes but we need an image for the project that can be used to populate templates and a user box. Gnangarra 02:13, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is how it currently looks, I've found a gage roads image for now use {{WP Australia|maritime=yes}} Gnangarra 02:24, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tried another img: Image:Endeavour IB.jpg but it hasn't refreshed or I did something wrong. I gotta go out now, will look at it later. Feel free to revert. —Moondyne 09:08, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Seems OK now. —Moondyne 09:54, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That image is more interesting, the gag road image was just put something there Gnangarra 14:53, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

War time operations

[edit]

This obviously needs links to the military history mob - but I do think we need it in SatuSuro 07:20, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns

[edit]

I'm a bit unsure what direction this page is going. People (and I'm probably the worst offender) are just adding links to articles and external sources and statements of ideals willy-nilly. If this is going to work, we need some structure. The to-do list should list articles to be created or expanded. Reference materials should list external and WP resources. There shouldn't be any overlap. There needs to be a single section stating aims and ideals. We don't need to restate editing policies that already exist in other WP policies. I will do a cut and burn in the next day or so if someone doesn't neat me to it. —Moondyne 01:45, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What this page has shown me over the last week or so is how much stuff is already in Wikipedia related to AMH that I didn't know about. Perhaps it will serve as an index of sorts. —Moondyne 01:48, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure of the protocol here, can I tag articles with WP Australia|maritime=yes that already exist, eg Catalpa rescue or only after a significant change? Ghostieguide 23:07, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can tag them any time. Hesperian 23:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maritime archaeology

[edit]

Hello and congrats on setting up this new project. I've added Maritime archaeology to the see also list - please categorise relevant articles with Category: Maritime archaeology, and please also contribute to the articles in this category as it is a bit of a lonely corner of the archaeology project at the moment! If someone could add a section on the maritime archaeology of Australasia (or Southern Ocean/Coral Sea etc) to Maritime archaeology, I would be very grateful. Thanks, and I look forward to comparing views on relevant discussion pages! Viv Hamilton 17:45, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

HMAS Sydney found?

[edit]

[1] Hesperian 05:19, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The claim looks pretty dubious. The claim that there are dozens of sunken ships in the waters near where Sydney went down, including several Japanese submarines according to the article in The Bulletin[2], defies belief. --Nick Dowling 05:36, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Sydney_%281934%29#Final_battle.2C_disappearance_and_searches - it looks like the eds working on this article section have good updates and stories running in their neck of the woods its worth watching SatuSuro 05:53, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just started a peer review for the Attack on Sydney Harbour article, at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Peer review/Attack on Sydney Harbour. As this falls under the grounds of WikiProject Australian Maritime History, I'm requesting that members of this group come forward and find the flaws in the article before it makes a run for A-class review, and hopefully Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. -- saberwyn 06:30, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Naming conventions for ships articles

G'day, I have been searching for a while for a naming convention for ship articles on WP. Is there one? Thanks Gillyweed (talk) 10:15, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (ships). I agree that it's not easy to find - I found it via the project documentation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships. --Nick Dowling (talk) 10:34, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. Thanks for your prompt response. Gillyweed (talk) 11:06, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

[edit]

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Australian maritime history

[edit]

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:03, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The National Archives of Australia has (in the last few days) declassified and released a large number of documents relating to the sinking of the Sydney (see the talk page). Although already rated GA, this new information should be thoroughly digested and included. We should work towards making this the FA for 22 November 2009, the 75th anniversary of her launch. 203.7.140.3 (talk) 04:56, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinators' working group

[edit]

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 04:51, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Lady Elizabeth (1869)

[edit]

Hello- I am currently tryign to increase the importance of the Lady Elizabeth (1869) page. The Lady Elizabeth played an important role in Australias history by bring immigrants from many different ports and other valuables and cargo. One problem I am having is accessing Lloyds List on the Lady Elizabeth. Currently there is no picture of the ship from what I have seen but I am still digging. I am also having problems with accessing information from the shipbuilders with hope of getting some more information, registration, and possibly build photos. Any advice is well apreciated. Can we get some extra eyes on AHS Centaur?

[edit]

Would any editors be willing to watchlist and keep an eye on the featured article AHS Centaur over the next month? As a major search for the wreck of the hospital ship starts this weekend, it is quite likely that the article will become subject to higher traffic (and higher vandalism) over the next few weeks...particularly if she is found. This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Unreferenced living people articles bot

[edit]

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian maritime history/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian maritime history/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 01:32, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pageview stats

[edit]

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Australian maritime history to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian maritime history/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 02:49, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Australian maritime history articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Australian maritime history articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). It appears to me that File:Green Cape, 1917.jpg is the same photograph as File:Green Cape, 1902.jpg, but cropped, grey-scaled, and adjusted contrast. However, they are tagged as two different years. Is there any insight that this project could give on this? Thanks, —Akrabbimtalk 13:33, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I really have to run so a quick response. The images both have a source link from where I took them. Follow those links and you should get the origin of the year data. If they are an extract of each other I don't know. Anything else, I'll be able to answer when back from vacation. --Muhandes (talk) 14:46, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Back from vacation, I had time to look at it. As I said, both images have links to the source repository, but it seems they no longer completely work, so one needs to know how these repositories work to actually get to the data.
"This series is a collection of glass plate negatives, of both original negatives and copy negatives which display high contrast or high densities associated with low contrast.
The material has been poorly processed and stored, resulting in deterioration of the plates. They have been repackaged and stored following advise from the Australian Archives conserator. The negatives have been copied on to direct duplicating film by the Australian War Memorial and are held by the Marine Operations Division of the Department.
The plates contain a historic record of Australian coastal lighthouses from about 1917."
So that's why there are different dates. Personally, I'd go for 1902, based on more accurate dating, but all one can really do in such a case is report what the source says, I presume. I hope this helps. --Muhandes (talk) 17:18, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for the clarification. I would agree that 1902 is the more reliable date, so I'm going to change the caption at Green Cape Lighthouse. I've also added links in the 'other_versions' field in the two image descriptions, to go with the note you added. —Akrabbimtalk 22:16, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 04:53, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Leaflet for Wikiproject Australian Maritime History at Wikimania 2014

[edit]

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live!

[edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

WikiConfererence Australia 2015 - Save the date 3-5 October 2015

[edit]

Our first Australian conference for Wikipedians/Wikimedians will be held 3-5 October 2015. Organised by Wikimedia Australia, there will be a 2-day conference (Saturday 3 October and Sunday 4 October) with an optional 3rd day (Monday 5 October) for specialist topics (unconference discussions, training sessions, etc). The venue is the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane. So put those dates in your diary! Note: Monday is a public holiday is some states but not others. Read about it here: WikiConference Australia 2015

As part of that page, there are now sections for you to:

  • indicate your interest in possibly attending the conference (this is not a binding commitment, of course)
  • add suggestions for topics to include in the conference: what you would like to hear/discuss (again, there is no commit to you presenting/organising that topic, although it’s great if you are willing to do so), or indicate your enthusiasm for any existing topic on the list by adding a note of support underneath it

It would really help our planning if you could let us know about possible attendance and the kind of topics that would make you want to come. If you don’t want to express your views on-wiki, please email me at kerry.raymond@wikimedia.org.au or committee@wikimedia.org.au

We are hoping to have travel subsidies available to assist active Australasian Wikipedians to attend the conference, although we are not currently in a position to provide details, but be assured we are doing everything we can to make it possible for active Australian Wikipedians to come to the conference. Folks, just letting you know we will not be proceeding with Wikiconference Australia 2015 originally proposed for 3-5 October 2015. Thanks to those of you who expressed your support. You are free to attend the football finals instead :-) Kerry (talk) 07:46, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings WikiProject Australian maritime history Members!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.

Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Best regards, SteviethemanDelivered: 17:52, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian maritime history/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Australian maritime history.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Australian maritime history, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lloyd's Register Foundation, Heritage & Education Centre uploads 5000 documents to Wikimedia Commons

[edit]

Hi WikiProject Australian Maritime History,

The Lloyd’s Register Foundation, Heritage & Education Centre have just uploaded 5005 documents from our Ship Plan and Survey Report Collection to Wikimedia Commons that may be of interest of you as many of our documents relate to Australian ports and maritime history. The ingestion is comprised of 16 boxes and accounts for 1082 ships across 184 unique places of build.

The documents include original handwritten correspondence from Lloyd's Register surveyors, ship plans and even a small selection of photographs. Examples include an annual report for Fiery Cross, a wreck report for Highwave, and cabin plan for the City of Simla.

In addition to the Ship Plan and Survey Report Collection, we are also beginning to ingest every edition of the Lloyd’s Register of Shipping until 1909 as well as a percentage of the First and Famous Collection, the world’s most iconic ships from within our collection. We will be sure to keep you updated on the progress of this next step.

Browse the full collection here.

We would really welcome some support for the resources and encourage you to share our documents on Wikipedia.

Thank you for all your help.LRFHEC (talk) 11:15, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User script to detect unreliable sources

[edit]

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Project-independent quality assessments

[edit]

Quality assessments are used by Wikipedia editors to rate the quality of articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project decides to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Help with an image request

[edit]

Today I took an image (see File:Remnants of the HMAS Otama at the Australian Marine Complex, Henderson, Western Australia, December 2023 01.jpg) which I presume to be the inner core of what is left of the HMAS Otama, which was being dismantled at the location. I can't be 100% sure however, never having seen the inner core of a submarine before. If anybody here has a bit more insight, can they please have a look and let me know if I have identified the image correctly. Calistemon (talk) 04:27, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
