AWB
[edit]This is just a pre-emptive message in case anyone comes here to talk about my current AWB project: I understand there is some controversy over the use of AWB to fix functioning but non-standard templates, and so I am only fixing the non-functional ones, such as [citation needed], Citation needed, and a "fix" template that directs to WP:Contents instead of WP:Citation needed. I or someone else can always go through and convert the remaining nonstandard cn templates later using the exact same AWB function. Also note that I'm busier lately than I used to be so I am breaking this task up across several days. If you are an AWB user and want to help out, feel free. Carnoustie update
[edit]Hi - I'm a bit puzzled why you decided my reversion of possible vandalism was vandalism itself? I was removing a couple of fairly unencyclopaedic and unreferenced comments about the ease of play on a golf course and someone "crying like a baby" beardybloke (talk) 12:43, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
No harm done - just wondered. My edit could have looked like vandalism I suppose as I did take out one line that looked like plausible new information for the article, but having considered the source and the fact that just about every other edit they have made was reverted I decided to be safe and remove that too. beardybloke (talk) 13:26, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Invitation to provide further input on desysop proposal
[edit]As someone who commented either for or against proposals here, I would like to invite you to comment further on the desysop process proposal and suggest amendments before I move the proposal into projectspace for wider scrutiny and a discussion on adoption. The other ideas proposed on the page were rejected, and if you are uninterested in commenting on the desysop proposal I understand of course. Thanks! → ROUX ₪ 04:26, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Saaranpaskantamasaari
[edit]Hi! I see you've created an article on Saaranpaskantamasaari. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that there's no significant coverage in reliable sources to be found, indicating that the article doesn't meet the inclusion criteria. The title has exactly 59 Google hits, mostly to forums discussing funny place names. I was going to propose deletion of the article, but decided to wait for a little, since you probably want an answer to your question first. Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 06:09, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. I know that the island exists, and I did check each of the above Google hits in an effort to find reliable sources before suggesting deletion. The problem here is that Wikipedia's threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth – even information that is objectively true must be attributed to a reliable source in order to satisfy the inclusion criteria. If no reliable sources can be found, the article should be deleted.
- As for fi.wikipedia having high standards: I consider the Finnish Wikipedia of pretty low quality compared to the bigger ones (like us or de.wikipedia), simply because there are only about 6 million spekers available to contribute, and because a significant part of the people who could contribute choose to write here instead because of the higher general quality and larger audience. (I happen to be one of those people myself.)
- I think the best option now is to start an AfD. Most likely, that will end up with either of three things:
- Someone comes up with a reliable source for the article, and the article is kept and improved.
- Someone comes up with a reason to keep the information as part of another article, and the article is merged there. This option, however, also requires reliable sources covering the subject.
- No reliable sources can be found, and the article is deleted as not meeting the inclusion criteria.
- I'll let you know when I've listed the article for AfD. I hope you understand. Jafeluv (talk) 19:16, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Aspberger's
[edit]Thank's for being my first editing reversion experience.
Let's talk about changing the lead paragraph as it currently is written. 1. Aspberger's is a mental disease.
THis fact is not made clear by using the phrase "autistic spectral disorder" I make it clear that it's mental, then that its autistic. I understand that you don't like too many links, and I agree in most cases. I also believe that the audience is vastly uneducated, hence the term is introduced first as mental, then as a specific mental disorder.
The idea of a complex in psychology was a good idea to me because it helped me with the idea of "a set of mental traits", and in this context, it enabled a clear background on which to highlight the Aspbergian fact that cognitive and linguistic skills were not in the complex.
2. stereotypies is confusing.
Misspelling? is a disruptive thought. I made it "stereotypy" to eliminate the disrupting thought.
3. The 2nd sentence diagram is ugly.
The second sentence to the lead of Aspbergers should be Aspberger's in a nutshell. It was the reason I jumped to the editor. The second sentence, to me, reads poorly. It offers many false connections between words and requires several "logic" passes to eliminate noise. The way it is currently worded with phrases like "significant difficulties", it is like using the word "obvious". (If there weren't significant difficulties, it would not be in a wikipedia article as a mental disorder.) The link to the mental disorder will tell readers that mental disorders are all characterized by "significant difficulties" in social interactions. In a nutshell, its got a set of mental traits. The set of disorders is as important as the set of normalities. So I say that assuming most readers want a compact list, a definition, not a rambling disconnected sentence diagram with strange spellings.
4. I added descriptive phrases from below.
I borrowed "severely restricted set" and "highly repetitive" from the other parts of the lead and moved them up to the first paragraph to form what I thought was the key picture: a person focused so intently on some few tasks in life that they must obviously be using their otherwise normal cognitive ability in an imbalanced attraction to life's many offerings.
5. I expanded the first paragraph into two.
In the second I explore "stereotypy" and I can see where I might have extended my knowledge boundary there.
Can we use some of my ideas?
