T. Namberumal Chetty

[edit]

Is T. Namberumal Chetty the same person as Namperumal Chetty? I assume they are variant spellings of the same name (different ways of converting characters into Latin alphabet?), but I'm not sure. See my query at Talk:T. Namberumal Chetty. --Orlady (talk) 03:52, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HARVEY'S MIILS, Madurai

[edit]

Hi. I found your old photo of the mill engine at Harvey's Mills. I am researching old mill steam engines - this one was built in 1910 by Yates & Tom of Blackburn, England. I'd like to know if there is a better quality version of the photo and also where it came from. Are there any more or indeed more information about the engines?

Many thanks for your help. You can e-mail me at d.collier-steamworks@tiscali.co.uk

The picture has been taken from Playne, Somerset (1914). I don't think there is a better quality image available.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 16:22, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you help me out with this article. I can't find any online sources. --Commander (Ping Me) 09:57, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not so good as far as films are concerned. Most of my articles on films, themselves, (with the exception of a few by M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar) rely on one or two sources only. You might consult User:Sodabottle in this regard. He has a few good books on the subject.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 17:59, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chennai History

[edit]

Ravi, which of S. Muthiah's books do you have? I have Madras that is Chennai, Queen of the Coromandel. If you have any of the others let me know as I'd like to start a rewrite on Chennai. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 10:23, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have Muthiah's Madras Rediscovered. But I've found inaccuracies in some of his books. Most of his researches in history are based on The Madras Tercentenary Commemoration Volume and Vestiges of Old Madras by H. D. Love both of which are available in Google Books. I rely more on the originals than Muthiah's book.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 17:56, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've been reading up the other two originals too. However, Muthiah is generally considered as Madras/Chennai's historian, so I'm looking to use his stuff, eitherways, if there are inconsistencies, then we could use other sources. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 06:18, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rao Bahadur

[edit]

You removed the list of notable recipients of the Rao Bahadur from the article with the justification that "(t)here are 1000s of people with Rao Bahadur or Diwan Bahadur titles who have Wikipedia articles".

Although I agree with your decision in principle, we should have some instruction (suitably commented out, of course) to dissuade readers from filling the article with those thousands of names. Any suggestions? DS (talk) 12:42, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the same.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 02:22, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Dr. Mathrubootham

[edit]

That dialogue appears in many movies in which both (Vivek and Mathrubootham) appeared together. Shahjahan was the first film which had this dialogue. --Commander (Ping Me) 05:13, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm you're right. The film was Pennin Manathai Thottu. The dialogue also comes in Shah Jahan and in a few films apart from that. In Shah Jahan, Vivek goes to Dr. Mathrubootham for a treatment where he asks the same doubt :) --Commander (Ping Me) 05:13, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of Suryanath U. Kamath

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Suryanath U. Kamath at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know!  Frank  |  talk  00:35, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I wonder if the article wouldn't more properly be placed at Suryanath Kamath, without the middle initial?  Frank  |  talk  00:40, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A Google search for "Suryanath U. Kamath" gives 19,000 results while one for "Suryanath Kamath" gives 10,200-RaviMy Tea Kadai 14:27, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, but...is a user looking for the subject of the article going to type in the middle initial?  Frank  |  talk  00:21, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Google Books uses "Suryanath U. Kamath" and "Suryanath Upendra Kamath" and not "Suryanath Kamath". We can create a redirect page for Suryanath Kamath.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 03:11, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, while we are on the subject of DYK nominations, I believe you have reached the threshold where we ask people to "give back" to the DYK process by reviewing someone else's nomination for every self-nomination you submit. The rule is that every contributor with at least 5 self-nominated DYKs should do these quid pro quo reviews for subsequent self-nominations. Not only does this help with sharing the workload, but many of us find that reviewing other people's nominations helps us write better hooks for our own articles.
I haven't tallied your current DYK count, but if you aren't at 5 DYKs yet, your current pending submissions will push you past that figure. (You've certainly been busy enhancing Chennai's profile in Wikipedia!) --Orlady (talk) 02:15, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Creating well-written articles on South India is my priority not the accumulation of DYKs. You might observe that I crossed the 100-mark in 2009 but did not make a single nomination between mid-2009 and mid-2011. I nominate articles for DYK - it is upto you to deal with them; and I don't mind even if you reject them.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 14:27, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please provide sources to support your claim. And by the way, if you have any issues regarding an article, you have to discuss them on the article talkpage, not here.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 12:19, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh sorry for that , Alright I've given the source on the articles talk page.. Check it out Tojo667 —Preceding undated comment added 13:08, 7 October 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Sorry, I'd rather go by published books than self-published websites like that.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 04:13, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FA?? Isn't it too early. I'm looking forward to snap more pictures of places like Rockfort, Srirangam, NITT and Airport. The problem is, I don't have a digital camera. Anyway I'll try uploading the pictures of the above mentioned places soon. --Commander (Ping Me) 08:37, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, I would like to work on the article with you. --Commander (Ping Me) 09:15, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Weigh in?

[edit]

Would you like to weigh in at the discussion in Talk:India on some 40 odd images? I know that's a lot, but a simple Yes/No would be adequate. Of course, if you choose to comment at more length, it would be even better. The India page is now the second most-viewed country page (after the US) and the 15th page overall, so having a set of high quality representative pictures becomes even more imperative. Wikimedia Stories Project

[edit]

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

vgrigas@wikimedia.org

Thank you for your time!

Victor
