DYK for Agreement Concerning the Shipwrecked Vessel RMS Titanic
On 25 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Agreement Concerning the Shipwrecked Vessel RMS Titanic, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 2019, the United States ratified a treaty that had been negotiated 16 years earlier to protect the wreck of the RMS Titanic? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Agreement Concerning the Shipwrecked Vessel RMS Titanic. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Agreement Concerning the Shipwrecked Vessel RMS Titanic), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Twinkle
Congratulations on passing your RfA! I'm sorry it was so rough. Anyway, here's a link to Twinkle, a tool that makes adminning tasks much easier, especially with deletion given what we discussed in the RfA. My best
I just want to say all the best for your RFA closure. I'll be asleep in the next few minutes (hopefully) so I'll miss it, but your replies and demeanour throughout have been as exemplary as I would have expected, and if it's not there this time, it's a matter of months before it is, and I sincerely hope you'd allow me the honour of doing this all again should the need arise. My very best to you. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 00:02, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

My belated congratulations!
Hi Ergo Sum! I just wanted to message you to congratulate you on your recent promotion to the "admin corps"! I'm sure that you're aware that I ultimately decided to oppose your candidacy, but I am extremely happy to see that you made it through. Your RFA,in a way, reminds me of how mine went, but for completely different reasons. :-) I barely passed mine, and for reasons that I (now) absolutely agree with. I was young, and I was wayyy too "jumpy" at the controls in areas where I shouldn't have been (just read through my RFA; you'll see). Regardless of how I felt and voted in your RFA, I just want you to know that I really am sincerely happy that you passed, and I also want you to know that I'm available and more than happy to help provide you with any input, thoughts, guidance, and assistance that you may need or like. My user talk page is always open to you, and you are welcome to reach out to me any time you'd like. :-) Congratulations, and I wish you the best of luck! I hope that you become a better admin than I will ever be, and that you use these tools for the benefit of the project and the respect of the community. ;-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:28, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

- Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
- The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with
wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input
. No proposed process received consensus.
- Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
- When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [1]
- Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators
that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

- I was really glad to see the increasing rate of supports during the past week, because I'm convinced that you'll be a fine administrator. I was tempted to post this exuberant pic that someone posted for me after my RfA passed in 2007, but as everyone is being more restrained here I too exercised some self-restraint. – Athaenara ✉ 05:58, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Ergo Sum - just dropping by to acknowledge your efforts at DYK & GA - extraordinaire! While I'm here, I will add a little shameless plug for the DS/aware template I proposed to ArbCom back in June 2019, and they accepted. See Template:Ds/aware which quite a few admins & editors are using per "What links here" at the template doc. I have a custom DS/aware template at the top of my UTP which serves the same purpose. It's a permanent fixture, so no need to add it every year. My notice covers everything in the DS log, so when an editor overlooks the notice and attempts to add the alert template, it brings up the whole list. Atsme Talk 📧 02:41, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

The Editing team has been working on the talk pages project. The goal of the talk pages project is to help contributors communicate on wiki more easily. This project is the result of the Talk pages consultation 2019.
The team is building a new tool for replying to comments now. This early version can sign and indent comments automatically. Please test the new Reply tool.
- On 31 March 2020, the new reply tool was offered as a Beta Feature editors at four Wikipedias: Arabic, Dutch, French, and Hungarian. If your community also wants early access to the new tool, contact User:Whatamidoing (WMF).
- The team is planning some upcoming changes. Please review the proposed design and share your thoughts on the talk page. The team will test features such as:
- an easy way to mention another editor ("pinging"),
- a rich-text visual editing option, and
- other features identified through user testing or recommended by editors.
To hear more about Editing Team updates, please add your name to the "Get involved" section of the project page. You can also watch these pages: the main project page, Updates, Replying, and User testing.

John Warren Davis (college president)
Good afternoon Ergo Sum! I am a tremendous fan of your work, especially your biographies of Samuel Mulledy, Thomas F. Mulledy, and other presidents of Georgetown University. (Samuel and Thomas are both from my hometown of Romney, West Virginia, which is how I began following your articles). I just finished writing an article for John Warren Davis (college president), a civil rights leader and the longest-serving president of West Virginia State University, and I wondered if you could briefly review it and provide me with guidance or suggestions for improvement. Any guidance or suggestions that you could provide would be incredibly appreciated! -- West Virginian (talk) 21:46, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- @West Virginian: Sure, I can take a look. Just a heads up, right now, my main interest is in Jesuits who have been college presidents, so any expertise I might have may be somewhat diminished. Were you looking for a peer review or more informal one? Also, I should be commending you on the great work you've done at FA, GA, and DYK; very impressive! Ergo Sum 14:59, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Ergo Sum: Hi Ergo Sum! I would really appreciate it if you would be able to take an informal look and provide me with any guidance, suggestions, or feedback for improvement. I am still tweaking with and adding to the article, and won't be submitting it for copyediting or a formal peer review until later before I submit for GAR. (Of course, if you'd prefer to do a formal peer review, that would be fine, too!) You've done a tremendous job of illustrating the biographies of so many Jesuit college and university presidents with varied and storied careers, much like Dr. Davis, and I value your article-writing style and expertise. Any guidance you could provide would be tremendously appreciated! Thanks again! -- West Virginian (talk) 01:28, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
