Information icon Hello, I'm Cerebral726. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Portal talk:Current events seemed less than neutral. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia.User:CeasefireNow, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read Your first article. You may also want to read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. As a heads up, Wikipedia is not a blog and userpages should not be used for materials not related to the encyclopedia. I highly encourage you to focus your efforts on editing, if that is your interest, over writing trivia on your user page. Fritzmann (message me) 03:44, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can I make it something like this: User:Crunchydillpickle/List of unusual anniversaries? If so, how?? watermelon66 (talk) 17:03, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is not the formatting, but that it seems like your primary concern is not building an encyclopedia. Cruchydillpickle is an editor first and has more activity on articles than in their userspace (and even that is greater than usual). I am just advising against having all your edits be to your user page, as that is frowned upon. Fritzmann (message me) 17:17, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So you're saying just dilute my editing focuses and it won't be so bad? watermelon66 (talk) 19:38, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Primarily focus on building an encyclopedia while editing Wikipedia and you should be good. Cerebral726 (talk) 19:45, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, a quick note that WP:CUSTOMSIG/P suggests that A customised signature should make it easy to identify your username. and that It is common practice for a signature to resemble to some degree the username it represents. You may want to update your signature to indicate that your username is "CeasefireNow". As a note, a 2021 RFC on the topic was closed with consensus against signatures being required to correspond exactly to usernames and no consensus to require that signatures be easily recognizable to a new user as referring to the username they link to. As such, this is just a friendly suggestion! -- Cerebral726 (talk) 16:12, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

[edit]

Hi CeasefireNow! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Palestine/Israel conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to Palestine/Israel conflict unless you are logged into an account and that account is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to your being blocked from editing.

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Hello

[edit]

I noticed you were adding links to some health-related subjects last month (thank you!), and I want to invite you to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine. You're welcome to join us if it's a subject area that interests you. It's a good place to ask questions about finding good sources for medical content or writing style. Feel free to put the group's page on your watchlist, or stop by to say hello some time. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:20, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Will do! Thanks for the heads up!
