THE BEAUTIFUL OSHIKOTO

[edit]

Oshikoto is a region situated in the northern central areas of Namibia .it's estimated that it's the only region at the northern part that encompasses with Mountains and Plains.its made up of ten constituencies [1] namely:Tsumeb,Omuthiya,Onyaanya,Onayena,Olukonda,Okankolo,Omuntele,Eengondi,Oniipa and Guinas with each constituency administered by an elected regional councillor.

Comparative Advantage

[edit]
  • Tsumeb is a constituency in Oshikoto surrounded by a number of commercial farms which create a market for fruits, vegetables and other commercial food .

[2]

  • The Tsumeb Corporation Limited (TCL) copper mine, which was closed in 1998 was catastrophic for the economy of the country but proved to be a blessing in disguise for Tsumeb.
    • When the mine re-opened under the Ongopolo Mining Processing Limited in 2000, it strengthened the drive to launch a strategic development plan for Tsumeb.
      • Economically, the region has a diversity of resources ranging from tourism, agriculture, mining and natural resources like underground water.
        • Apart from the underground water, there are plans under way to develop awoodland area in Eengodi and Okankolo constituencies.
          • A saltpan in Omuntele constituency is also under use by people around and from distance.
          • Namibia's largest and most renowned tourist attraction, the Etosha National Park, is partly situated in the region of Oshikoto, which makes the town a tourist thoroughfare.
          • We speak of the lake calledOtjikoto lake in Tsumeb.

What improvement does Oshikoto need?

[edit]
  • Our education system is victim to the lack of discipline, stated by the Direct of education Oshikoto region,Mr Lamek Kafidi.[3]
  • Teachers fails to give lessons, and there are those involved in sexual relations with learners, the misappropriation of school funds, the abuse of alcohol and drugs, and even teachers getting into physical fights with their colleagues.
  • There's a need forprincipals and heads of departments (HoDs) to take decisions at school level instead of just referring matters to the circuit office.there's a big need of improvement in all the above mentioned matters.
