7 is the fifth release by the Norwegian free improvising group Supersilent. It is a DVD video documentation of a concert performed on August 16, 2004, at Parkteatret Oslo, Norway. Along with its predecessor 6, it is one of Supersilent's most acclaimed and widely known works. At 109 minutes in length, it is the longest single numbered album by the band.
Music
[edit]7 consists of five concert pieces and an encore, all improvised by the group.
The tracks "7.1", "7.2", "7.3", and "7.5" are comparatively lengthy tracks which begin with quiet ambient soundscapes before building up into more abrasive percussion-based crescendos. "7.5" is notable for the relatively short length of its ambient section, and "7.3" is notable for, after its initial burst of abrasiveness, settling down into a more subdued and straightforwardly rhythmic section before its final climax. Each of these tracks feature chanted or screamed glossolalias from vocalist/trumpet player Henriksen, except for "7.3", which features a more conventionally sung section.
The tracks "7.4" and "7.6" remain ambient throughout their durations, featuring sparse keyboard and trumpet melodies.
