I am shortly going to move this text, plus a redirect to Wellington. The name is was sometimes the old name for Wellington, as Auld Reekie was for Edinburgh, and Stalingrad was for Volgograd. You will note that similar articles mostly have redirects. Wallie 05:40, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have you not read this talk page? The article survived an Afd. You should not redirect it to Wellington.-gadfium 06:19, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am not trying to delete it. Just put the text in the correct spot. Helengrad is Wellington, is it not? These New Zealand articles are difficult to rationalize. I managed to merge the article "Illegal alien", which I would have thought would have come up against some opposition, with no difficulty at all. Perhaps the US people are a little more flexible in their attitude...? Wallie 07:16, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's right to take broad unilateral action on an article which has gone through an AFD. By all means start another AFD with a specific question about redirecting the article, but doing it all yourself seems a bit heavy-handed. Darobsta 14:12, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also Helengrad is not the old name for Wellington at all, and it is only a satirical name for Wellington in a very loose sense - more correctly it relates to the regime of the Labour Government. It probably doesn't deserve its own page, but as it survived an AFD it should be left here, and at any rate it would be better merged with Helen Clark, rather than Wellington Ham21 23:28, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DELETE! This page is little more than a record of the derisive way that opponents of the NZ Labour Party refer to the current Prime Minister - alluding to communism by referring to Wellington in this manner. It is ONLY ever used to attack the current government and is not used in ANY other context, much less as an actual reference to Wellington.

This page should be removed as it represents a negative political bias. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.101.90.177 (talk) 08:49, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose to merge Helengrad into Fifth Labour Government of New Zealand. Actually I did this in November [1] so it would just be a case of converting this article into a redirect. The previous redirect was recently reverted. The term has had no long standing impact and was a briefly used neoglism directed at one goverment. It can easily be covered at the article on the government. Aircorn (talk) 13:52, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - This term is still used in New Zealand to refer to Wellington and its bureaucracy. The page just needs updating and expansion, doesn't need to be subsumed into another article. Kiwichris (talk) 06:22, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Closing, given the uncontested objection and no support. Klbrain (talk) 21:53, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
