Bridge renaming

[edit]

The bridge was renamed back to East End Bridge (won't let me move to official designation at East Huntington Bridge) because,

  • Official documents from WVDOH state that this is the East Huntington Bridge,
  • Renderings show this as the East Huntington Bridge,
  • Other terms are slang or informal.

The press-release posted on the Herald Dispatch was not WVDOH sanctioned. It appears nowhere on WVDOHs web-site, and my contacts at WVDOH stated that they were not informed of the renaming. The press-release also states that it was produced by Marshall, leading me to believe it is an informal designation, on top of the two other slang terms for this span. For the sake of history and per official designation, it should be kept at East Huntington Bridge (East End Bridge for the interm). Seicer (talk) (contribs) 22:22, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe your contacts are misinformed, as I traveled the bridge last Thursday to find an official WVDOT highway sign designating it the Gatski bridge. I'm not going to change the article, but I think you might want to check with your sources again. Oherian 14:22, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I called him up this morning and its considered a "secondary designation". The "primary designation" is still the East Huntington Bridge on planning documents, and for historical purposes IMO we should be using the original name. I'm going to create a page with the new name and have it redirect to this page. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 15:58, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like the perfect thing to do to me. This trend of renaming things after people grows old on me quickly. Maybe because I don't have anything named after me?  ;-) Oherian 18:30, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
