[edit]Article on compassionate use program needs to be amended; Irv Rosenfeld is still very much alive and smoking. (Above unsigned comment by 216.170.142.17.)
Also, compassionate use programs don't apply exclusively to marijuana. I believe it refers to any drug that is not legally obtainable (yet) that is offered to patients who have no other avenues for treatment. (Above unsigned comment by 141.213.52.142.)
Rename?
[edit]Should this aricle be renamed? The correct title of the program is "Compassionate Investigational New Drug study program" or "Compassionate IND". If no one comments in a few days, I'm going to move it. ♫ Bitch and Complain Sooner ♫ 02:14, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- I found this on the FDA's website, "Emergency and Treatment INDs are also known as "Compassionate" INDs, but the term "Compassionate" is not in the IND regulations." -http://www.fda.gov/cder/about/smallbiz/faq.htm --65.67.135.59 04:38, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- I am one of the first 13 in are nation to have a legal right to have medical marijuana. I am trying to find out if there are any other people from the first 13 still alive. SilverCat2 (talk) 00:27, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
- Because, you know, the purpose of our Federal Government is never to be compassionate.
2006 was four years ago
[edit]This article seems to be significantly out of date. 2006 is not really "today". WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:54, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
- This appears to be a more recent accurate accounting of the remaining patients:

Problems
[edit]I see that tags were removed from this article.[1] I would not have tagged it with those particular tags, but there are more significant issues here.
- Huge swaths of uncited text; please cite it soon so the article doesn't have to be tagged.
- Presumably some (most) of the individuals mentioned in this article are living persons, so WP:BLP applies. I will be going through the article next to remove uncited mentions of living persons. Please become familiar with out policy on living persons; MEDRS is only a guideline, but BLP is policy and a strictly enforced one. We don't write uncited or poorly cited text about living persons.
There are pressing copyedit needs, but those can be dealt with once the article is cited. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 06:27, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- Post to the BLP Noticeboard, here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 06:45, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
There are a lot of basic copyedit needs, but this one is incomprehensible:
- Initially only available to people with marijuana-responsive disorders and orphan drugs,[clarification ...
What is meant by "marijuana-responsive disorders"? We leave the reader guessing. Initially only available to people with orphan drugs? What does that mean? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 07:28, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- I'm happy to address these issues ASAP, however you removed some of the most historically notable aspects of this program. Your deletion of the legal background and decision declaring cannabis as medicine and establishing the legal basis for medical cannabis in the U.S. appears to show an unfamiliarity with the topic. Not a very wise edit, IMO. Viriditas (talk) 08:31, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
Historically notable and discussing living persons without citation.Removing it is policy. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 09:48, 3 December 2013 (UTC)- The material I restored concerns a dead person, not a living one. Viriditas (talk) 10:26, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- Note, these edits were added without references by User:Wadems. I'll be looking to add references in the next few days and rewriting if necessary. Viriditas (talk) 09:02, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- It looks like Wadems' sources were a Salon.com blog and something on AOL news (one not reliable, the other not likely to be found, so good luck). Anyway, that's good news; I'm glad you'll be working to source the article, and it's hard to understand why an uncited article with multiple mentions of living persons (BLP) stood for seven years and no one took the time to do it. Compassionate Investigational New Drug program
[edit]- copied from User talk:SandyGeorgia
I removed all the unsourced information about Irvin Rosenfeld, but I restored the content about Robert Randall. I'm not at all clear why this was removed as it forms the historical record of the origins of the Compassionate Investigational New Drug program. Viriditas (talk) 08:06, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- I had already removed the unsourced; you removed further sourced information about one individual, reverted some citations I had added and minor copyediting, removing some cn tags, and re-added information about a lawsuit,
which discusses a living person.[2] That's BLP. So, you removed some that was cited, and restored some that was uncited, while removing article improvements I had made. I'll leave it to you. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 10:13, 3 December 2013 (UTC)- My sincere apologies; you are correct that I mixed up Randall and Rosenfeld. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 10:51, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
