Vacancies

[edit]

In the specific context of the member table in an electoral district's article, what's relevant is the year served and not the individual month-and-day dates. Accordingly, a vacancy which resulted from an MLA's resignation or death in office is noted in this table only if it carried over into the following year, such that the succeeding member's term would begin in a different year than the resigned or dying member left office — if the by-election or the next general election was held in the same year as the vacancy occurred, however, then there is no value in adding a vacancy line. The infobox in the MLA's own biography should obviously be exact about the dates, but in this context it's not helpful or valuable to add a vacancy line if the end year on the outgoing MLA's term, the standalone year in the vacancy line and the start year on the succeeding MLA's term are all the same year.
