RTS 1 (Serbian Cyrillic: РТС 1; First program of RTS (Serbian: Први програм РТС-а/Prvi program RTS-a), First channel of RTS (Први канал РТС-а/ Prvi program RTS-a) or only First (Први/ Prvi)) is a Serbian public mainstream TV channel operated by RTS.

History

[edit]

The channel started broadcasts on 23 August 1958[1] with the inaugural edition of Dnevnik, until 31 December 1971 it was RTB's only channel. With the dissolution of Yugoslavia, it adopted the name RTS1, with the merger of the transmitters employed by RTB, RTNS and RTP.[2][3]

The final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, held in Belgrade and produced by RTS, attracted a record high audience of 4,560,000 viewers. At the time, nine out of the ten most watched programs on Serbian television were from RTS's channels.[4]
