Taiwo Olajide, professionally known as Jaido P, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter born on 24 September 1998.[1] He gained prominence for his unique musical style and energetic performances. Well-known for hits such as "Tesinapot," "Survive," and the viral video sensation "Cram," Jaido P is also recognized as a co-founder of the record label 23 Dreams.[2][3][4]
Early Life
[edit]Jaido P was born in Ogun State, Nigeria, into a family of six. He is a native of the same state. As the eldest of four children, he was raised in a music-loving environment. He developed a passion for music at a young age, largely influenced by his active involvement in church activities as a chorister.[5] Aside from his role as an instrumentalist in church, his father's inclination towards music, with preferences for artists like Jay Z, contributed to his early exposure to a variety of musical genres and significantly shaped his musical journey.
Education
[edit]For his education, he attended Chessvile Private School in Oke Aro, Lagos State, and later pursued his secondary education at Bammy College in Ifako Ijaye. Jaido P continued his academic journey by studying Local Government Studies at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State.[6]
Career
[edit]2013 - 2020 Career Beginnings
[edit]Jaido P's musical journey began in 2013 while he was a student at Obafemi Awolowo University.[7] He quickly gained popularity for his musical talents and became one of the standout performers in the university's music scene alongside notable artists such as Asake, Zamorra, Blaqbonez, Chinko Ekun, and Cheque (formerly Kyle B).[8]
The lyrics of his hit song, “Gor Die” are still etched in the minds of his fellow students as he regularly made appearances at shows and concerts in and around the school premises. Ever the energetic performer, his participation in street rap freestyle trends like "Ki leleyi na" contributed to his growing recognition among the student community, solidifying his reputation as a burgeoning musical talent.[9]
After completing his degree, Jaido P focused on his music career. Gaining significant attention with his remade version of his uni hit "Gor Die” in 2018, he later released his first official track, "E GET REASON” in 2019.[10][11] The single, in which he featured Zlatan and Davolee paved the way for success for the rising star, garnering almost 400,000 plays on Apple Music.
Going harder the next year, Jaido P released “Faya," and "Run” in February 2020.[12] [13]
A significant milestone came in July 2020 when he collaborated with afrobeat legend and YBNL boss Olamide on the hit song "Tesinapot.”[14][15] With a vibe that resonated with many, the track was a success and it achieved nearly 3 million streams on Apple Music since its release.
The singer wrapped up the year with "Brokoto," which has accumulated around 300,000 plays on Apple Music by the end of the year.[16]
2021 - Present: 23 Dreams Record
[edit]2021 marked another significant milestone in Jaido P's career with the release of his first EP, titled "Shopla," in August.[17] The EP, which included contributions from Olamide and “Nobody” hitmaker Joe Boy not only resonated with his listeners, but also earned him recognition by Apple Music as the cover star for their Up Next initiative in September.[18]
Included in the EP is the Olamide-featured hit single "Survive," which gained widespread acclaim and accumulated over 1.2 million plays on Apple Music.[19]
Continuing his momentum, Jaido P released another hit single titled "Cram" in November 2021.[20] A sharp jam with sweet tunes and relatable lyrics brought to life by producer Cracker Mallo, the song was quickly embraced by many, spreading wide across social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. It was also included as a soundtrack in the 2022 Netflix young adult TV series “Far From Home,” alongside Olamide-assisted hit "Tesina Pot."[21] The heights of the track’s success is evident in the about 2 million plays it recorded on Apple Music.
“Cram” was followed by successive successes like "Queen and More” in March 2022, “Reason Much” in July 2022, and double-track work "Disturb/Pablo Moves” in September 2022.[22][23][24][25] In his usual style, Jaido P spoke to the populace in “Queen and More” with a vibey amapiano tune and super relatable lyrics.
In 2023, he co-founded the record label 23 Dreams, which manages his music.[26] So far, the label has achieved over 8 million streams on Apple Music and has churned out recent releases from the budding artist, including "One of a Kind" featuring YBNL signee Fireboy DML in March and "Neighbours" in July.[27][28] His latest single "Gbeff” came on August 9 and has been a hit, with many social media users jumping on it.[29]
According to his Instagram page where he hints at upcoming releases and exciting projects, he has another single coming out on September 6. Before then, fans are to expect the visuals to “Gbeff” on August 28.[30]
