In February 2006, he was banned from snooker for eight years for match-fixing at the 2005 China Open, shortly before which he had resigned his membership of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA). Hann werd in 1999 wereldkampioen 8-ball onder de World Eight-ball Pool Federation (WEPF). Van 1995 tot en met 2006 was hij ook actief als professioneel snookerspeler, maar hij werd in februari 2006 voor acht jaar geschorst door de WPBSA omdat hij zich had laten omkopen tot het expres verliezen van een wedstrijd op het China Open 2005. Undercoverjournalisten van The Sun brachten aan het licht dat Hann bereid was te verliezen in ruil voor geld. Zij leverden daarvan voldoende overtuigend bewijs om een raad van discipline te doen besluiten Hann te schorsen. Hij kondigde zelf drie dagen voor de uitspraak al aan dat hij stopte met snooker. Hanns maakte zijn hoogste op televisie uitgezonden break in 1997, toen hij in één beurt 143 punten maakte tijdens de Grand Prix. Hann w środowisku snookerowym słynął z temperamentu i licznych kontrowersji. Miłośnik sportów ekstremalnych, doznał kilkakrotnie złamań kończyn (wypadek motocyklowy, upadek przy skoku ze spadochronem). Złamanie stopy sprawiło, że w turnieju UK Championships w 2001 był zmuszony do gry bez obuwia. Wielokrotnie wypowiadał się krytycznie o Wielkiej Brytanii, sugerując przeniesienie ważnych turniejów snookerowych do Australii. Jego kariera załamała się w 2005. Hann zgodził się przegrać mecz w stosunku zaproponowanym przez podstawionego bukmachera, co okazało się prowokacją dziennikarzy pisma "The Sun". W lutym 2006 złożył członkostwo w federacji światowej (World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association).
